Wake up with the local voice of Andy Muirhead.

Andy grew up in Sale in country Victoria. Although he spent most of his high school years fooling around in the drama room, he developed an interest in science and followed that path after his family relocated to Hobart. He graduated from the University of Tasmania in 1998 and took up a job as a biologist.

As a teenager, Andy’s dream was to perform on "The Big Gig" - a stand up comedy show on the ABC. Although the Big Gig was long gone in 2002, Andy finally decided to pursue his dream when he entered "Raw Comedy" – a national competition for new comedians. That 5 minutes on a stage in Hobart spurred Andy to continue down the comedy path. He performed in the Hobart Comedy Festival that year and represented Tasmania in the Raw Comedy National Final in 2003.

From those beginnings Andy went on to perform in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2004, 2005 and 2006 where his show “Perky” was a sell out success. He has also performed in the Adelaide Fringe Festival and featured in stand up comedy venues in Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

While performing in the Hobart Comedy Festival in 2005, Andy was told of a new TV show taping at the ABC. He contacted the show to offer his services as an “audience warm up comedian”. The show turned out to be “Collectors” and what was pitched as a “get to know you chat” by the producers at the ABC, became an impromptu audition. A week later, Andy was on air as the host of the show.

Since then, Collectors has become a household name, attracting audiences of over a million viewers every Friday Night at 8pm.

Reviewers have described Andy as; “Perky”, “Apple Cheeked”, “Disarmingly Charming” and his personal favourite “Nanna’s boy”.
