It's not only production designers who have to capture our
imaginations when it comes to creating a moving picture world.
Once the film's made, it's very often the poster which entices us into the cinema, and it's also often the poster which sticks in our memories long
after the lights come up, finds its way onto our lounge room walls - in many cases, becomes an iconic pop image.
Here's your chance to make your own (virtual) cinema history, and win a fantastic prize, by creating an instant-classic movie poster!
We're asking you to come up with a striking, original poster for one of the following four blockbuster films, coming soon to imaginary
cinemas near you:
Tower Command (Action/Adventure)
Basement Blade 2 (Horror)
Scarlett Manor (Drama)
Starfleet Timeslide (Sci-Fi/Fantasy)
The most imaginative, compelling and convincing posters will be showcased on the ACMI website.
One winning entry, as selected by our judges, will win its talented creator a brand new Wacom Bamboo Fun (medium) Graphics Tablet (value $300) plus a
copy of Art of the Modern Movie Poster: International Postwar Style and Design - a gorgeous hardcover book chronicling the movie poster from WWII to
now; from Polish psychedelia to Bollywood (published by Chronicle Books).
And, to really sweeten the deal, the first 20 entries we receive will get a double pass to Setting the Scene.
To enter, email your poster, for one of the film titles above, as a JPEG or TIFF file (minimum 300px wide, at 300dpi) to giveaways@acmi.net.au; or post your artwork to: ACMI Setting the Scene Poster Competition, PO Box 14,
Flinders Lane, Melbourne, 8009, Victoria. Entries close Friday 6 March 2009.
