WIN a double pass to Brilliant
Monkey
Closing date: Friday March 13
We've got one double pass to giveaway for a performance of Brilliant Monkey at Frankston Arts Centre on Tuesday March 17, 8pm valued at $80!
From the team that made you laugh and cry with ‘Last Cab to Darwin’
"Brilliant Monkey" played to full houses and rave reviews in Sydney and was nominated for ‘Best Independent Production’ at the Sydney Theatre Awards
in 2008.
‘Brilliant Monkey’ is the first play written by long time ham Al Dukes and tackles issues of homelessness and the impact of returning from war.
The story will leave you to reflect on the state and stories of your own family – once you stop giggling like a fool!
Actor Warwick Young joins Al Dukes in this two hander to play Gerard, the brother who has just returned home from active service in Afghanistan,
suffering a traumatic brain injury. While he awaits classification by his military assessors he is reunited with his homeless elder brother Danny [AlDukes]. Together they hold the keys to the doors of their past and, unexpectedly, their future.
There is so much here! The bald, familiar reality of damaged family relationships. The injustice of schizoid, duplicitous standards we apply, without
compunction, to fighting men and women: one moment heroes; the next, refuse. The ignominy and dignity of the downtrodden, who, no matter how wealthy a
nation we become, are always among us.
Wisecracks. Jokes. Comic vignettes of British proportions. Moving poetry. And sharply-delivered insights: ’success is always experienced privately;
failure is always in full public view’.
"Raw and genuine emotions...two of the best performances of the year...
timely...."- Vibewire
‘…an instructive and witty sound design…nuanced dialogue and performances of great conviction are highlights…sensitive exploration… Young elevates an
explosive sense of mental and emotional pressure… Dukes’s Danny is no less complex and equally rewards close attention… strong characterisation…’ -
Sydney Morning Herald
‘…little gem of a play…a devastatingly funny two-hander…a terrific study in contrasts…Dukes…really steals the show…had the audience in stitches…’
