Such a great idea, I'll save this on my favourites and will look at it when I need an idea on what to cook.
What is everyone thinking if we have a thread like "What I'm cooking today" so we'll get more ideas. For me it's a struggle every day to think
what to cook! |

Did anyone see the Easter Egg slice recipe that Fast Ed made on BH&G? I've done a search for it online, but can't find it, and it's not in the

The taste recipe is similar but Ed said the secret of his recipe was the golden syrup
200g shortbread biscuit crumbed
90g melted butter
400g dark choc
300ml cream
2 tablespoons golden syrup
just over 1 tablespoon melted butter
melt all together then let cool slightly
chop 80g pistachio nuts and add to mix leaving a small amount to sprinkle over finished slice
approx 250g caramel filled easter eggs or one for each slice .....place on to biscuit mix, then cover with melted choc mix and sprinkle with nuts

Thanks everyone.
I'm obviously blind, because the recipe is in the mag, and I found it after looking through again.
I have made a batch now, waiting for it to set.

Had quinoa for dinner tonight, used it just like rice. Cooked the quinoa in the microwave (1 cup quinoa, 2 cups water, cook for 10 mins then stand
with lid on for 3 minutes). Meanwhile saute onion and garlic in frypan, add any veges you want, cut small and even size pieces, mix all together and
serve with chicken kebabs. All my kids ate it.

Thanks for the tip, Banana.
Whilst quinoa was cooking, I panfried garlic, onion, green chilli, mushrooms, green capsicum and zuccini, then stirred in the cooked quinoa.
It was delicious!

Sigh.....my OH has been given a wild duck and he want me to cook it. I don't like duck and don't really know how to cook it. I thought I would fry
it off in oil to brown and put in slow cooker with stock, red wine and bay leaf for about 5 hours on low. Does that sound OK? Can't seem to find
any help on Taste.com, my go to for recipes.

I've never slowcooked duck before so I'm not 100% sure if it depends on whether it's breast/leg meat? I usually brown my duck pieces off and pop
into the oven as per Nigella's recipe below - so simple, quick and tasty!
http://www.lifestylefood.com.au/recipes/14993/roast-duck-legs-and-potatoes
I have also made a duck ragu pasta from one of Jamie Oliver's cookbooks but it was a bit time consuming. It was SO good, but took ages to make. The
closest thing I could find online was a Gwenyth Paltrow version of Jamie Oliver's recipe which looks a bit simpler:

Thanks TT. I put it in the slow cooker as I had to get it going. I fried off some onion, celery and garlic and put in the bottom of the cooker, then
browned the duck and put it in. Added about a cup of liquid, red wine and stock and a bay leaf. Seasoned it well and away she goes. Its a duck
middle? No legs or wings and split down the back. Not much fat to speak of, wild duck seems to be very lean. I think I'll be vegetarian
tonight!

Spag Bol
1 bottle italian passata
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 large brown onion, diced
3 cloves fresh garlic, crushed
1-2 sticks celery, finely diced
1 carrot, finely diced or grated
few good pinches fresh rosemary leaves, finely chopped (can use dried)
few good pinches fresh thyme leaves (can use dried)
dried ground oregano, to taste
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
500gm mince
1 rasher bacon, finely diced (optional)
salt and pepper to taste
spaghetti
Saute onion, garlic, bacon, celery and carrot in olive oil. Stir through herbs and tomato paste. Add mince, stir until well browned. Add remaining
ingredients and simmer until reduced and cooked through. I usually cook it for several hours for better flavour. Stir through cooked spaghetti, top
with freshly shaved parmesan.
