WARNING Call from Australian Government reclaim department

Got a call from an Indian claiming they were from the Australian Government reclaim department and were wanting to pay back overpaid bank charges plus interest. $4851 in total. They had my name and address. They said they could forward me a cheque when I wouldn't give them bank details
They also wanted to know where I worked, who I banked with.

I was supposed to call their supervisor to confim my details.
Telephone number 0280062926.

I didn't give out my details just a warning, don't know if it's comp related but thought I'd just put it in.

Have you contacted your state's Dept of Consumer Affairs about this/ They can do a press release about this and get the Attorney general's Dept onto it too.

If they were able to calculate how much your overpaid bank charges were they should already know who you bank with.

Thanks for the heads up

good point wom;)
The refunding of bank charges is through a class action by a solicitors firm, not through the government.

And only if you have signed up.

I have and they have said they will not call me but will send an email with no details of banks etc so that not hacked.

Scary that they had your name and address.

An Indian, well duh, there is a clue.

If they have your name & address why wouldn't they just post you a cheque???? - because it is just an excuse to get your bank account number so they can spam you.

I phoned the ACCC and left them all the details and it's happening alot, they keep a record of it.

First time I'd ever had that happen if you don't count the Spam & the American Voice recorded Scam
