Dropbox - Free Secure online Cloud Storage (up to 16GB)
Hello all,
Hopefully this is in the right place.
Just want to make everyone aware of Dropbox, a secure, online cloud storage solution which you can use to access your files from anywhere in the
world. Also has great integration with PC, and apple devices.
Basically you sign up, install a small program and anything that you put in your Dropbox folder is automatically synced with your online cloud stoarge
and is free to access from anywhere.
You can even create a public folder where you can share large files with friends.
The reason I am telling you this as I want to share my referral link with you so that we can both take advantage of the extra free storage you get for
sharing.
If you haven't signed up yet, I would be awefully chuffed if you could do so using my link below.
Also if you have a .edu email address make sure you sign up with that as you get an extra storage bonus.
CHEERS!
You can sign up to Dropbox here: http://www.dropbox.com/
Or please consider signing up via my referral link: http://db.tt/ZnkzYlc0
edit: forgot to add that if you use Microsoft Synctoy to sync files on your computer you can have yourself a free and easy archiving/backup system in case you
computer is damaged or stolen (eg back up all your photos etc)

I've used Dropbox for years and highly recommend it.
Since you do get extra free storage for referrals I think it's fair that anyone wanting to post their referral link should do so in this thread.
Of course, if you'd like to join but don't want to use someone else's link, just head directly to http://www.dropbox.com

My link, if anyone is interested, is: http://db.tt/z8cl0Mte

Could someone please tell me the Pro's of doing this. I am a little worried about cloud computing even though I know it is here to stay. I have a
good backup system to a server for all our home PCs & 2 TB drives of backup data at daughter's house in case of fire or robbery. Maybe I don't
feel comfortable my data is floating around in the Never Never - actually how safe is it really?

I love Dropbox and have used it for years without a single problem.
You are doing a great job of backing up your data by having it not only in your home but in another location.
A lot of people only backup data within their own home, which isn't very safe.
Cloud storage allows safe backup offsite, as well as allowing you access to your data from anywhere in the world.
You, not others... unless you choose to share it.
Storage companies put a fortune into securing their severs because they would be in a world of pain (& lawsuits) if they didn't.
Still, with all that said, maybe cloud storage isn't for you, and that's perfectly fine

Thank for the heads up about this thread Rembrat
I'm a dropbox convert
Here's my referral link http://db.tt/NI7bZNl (I get extra storage if you use
my link to sign up and it's totally free unless you choose to upgrade - which is unlikely unless you have super loads to drop into there )

Does it need to be installed separately on each computer or, once downloaded to my pc, do I access online fome my laptop?
