Darwin/Jabiru

Hi Everyone, We are off to Darwin/Jabiru thanks to our Schweppes prize soon and are wondering what are the must see things to do and visit there. They have given us a car so we will be able to get around.

I know Lottos will be able to advise me and send me in the right direction! Our 8 year old is already very keen on the free waterpark as well as the wave pool, (There is apparently a new 6 lane slide water park but I cant seem to find any info on if its actually open yet?) I would love to see the Darwin museum with the Cyclone Tracy room. Wondering what else is a must for us we will only have 4 days but I'm sure we can pack a lot in!!

Thanks in advance

Jumping Croc boat cruise don't miss it. Great buffet at the casino cheaper on certain days of the week Fish feeding place is called Aquascene. Go to the Darwin Trailer Boat Club for dinner the sunsets are to die for (not far from musuem) The free water park is fantastic. Fish and chips at the wharf, look for Dolphins while you are there also. Litchfield National Park is a must swimming in the lagoons is just so relaxing. You will fall in love with Darwin and long to take a break there again we did.

Make sure you spend time in Kakadu NP. Highlights Ubir Rock, view over floodplain to die for. Nourlangie Rock for exceptional rock art and the Yellow Waters cruise at dawn/sunset is a highlight. Have a look at East Alligator River(Cahills Crossing) at the turn of tide. Last time we were there (waiting to cross from Arnhemland to Darwin for school holidays) there were 6 crocs feasting on mullet. Mesmerising. A natural zoo.
Can also recommend Litchfield NP. Spectacular.
Jumping Crocodile? Sorry don't like this as we are barra fishers and prefer not to have a croc launching itself into our tinny. However I've heard it is quite a show.
Darwin itself. Seafood on wharf is great. Museum is fantasic. Check out Sweetheart!
Have you thought about extending?
Have a wonderful break. Congratulations!

The new six-lane waterpark is in Palmerston and is not open yet, but the rumour is middle April...

Definitely check out the museum. Parap markets on Saturday mornings are lovely and Mindil Markets start in May and they are world renowned. Crocosaurus Cove is pretty cool and it is right in the middle of the city. The military museum is interesting too.

As for Jabiru (I lived there for four years), it really depends on when you are going. They've had quite a bit of rain this season and many of the tourist spots are closed and probably won't open until late May early June. Go to the Bowali visitor centre and they will tell you where you can go.

Enjoy your trip!

I took my boy there in April when he was 9 and he loved it!

The jumping crocs is definitely something to see but is nowhere near as good as the yellow water cruise. It feels a bit like the difference between seeing animals in the zoo and in the wild. Sam thought so too. Having seen it, there is NO WAY I would ignore the crocodile do not swim signs like some people do!

Museum is excellent, the fish park was great fun. We also went into the old artillery storage tunnels. Sam really enjoyed that.

Kakadu itself was just stunning. I love birds and was totally blown away by what we saw. Very impressed by the art at Nourlangie Rock, too.

Have a fabulous trip!
