I assumed it would come with your family assistance, but I really do not know much about it. I work, so do I still get it even though I work and am a
single mum?

if you dont claim your centrelink family assistance fortnightly, you will get your payment when you do your tax return..I dont claim doing the year as
I find it frustrating to estimate my husband and mine combine income,so I wait till tax time and then claim.

mine is showing to be payed now as $1636 I have 1 started year7 and a year10 but last year I had a year12 so looks like I miss out on that I thought I
might have got half
you would also think if it is for 2 high school children it would be $1640 not $1636

That does look like an odd amount comper girl, your right though, you should get half for your year 12 student last year, Maybe you got one full
highschool one, half the other one for last year and one primary school payment.
joey2608, you probably got a percentage, since this is from june 2011-june2012, your child only recently turned this age.
It doesn't make full sence, beginnning school you still have the same upfront costs and if you waiting until next month and claimed with all your
receipts you possible could have had more expenses than that.
I also wonder about the other issue raised, this is paid automatically to people on FTB. If your income is higher than the threshold and you missout,
then its compeltely going against what it initially was - A tax refund. Anyone could claim the expenses of schooling as a tax refund, couldn't they.
Now are they not allowed to claim that tax rebate? maybe those people still have to lodge a claim, who knows.
This is a once off payment, from now on it will be given each year in two instalments, one in January and one in July.

My understanding is that the old scheme was only for people on FTB too - but I could be wrong. My little girl doesn't start school until next year.

My son was also in year 12 last year, I have kept all receipts from last year and was looking forward to making my claim, I think we should still be
eligible to claim otherwise how is it fair ?
EDIT Just found the following information
If you were not eligible for one of the above payments on 8 May 2012, but you would have usually claimed the Education Tax Refund through the
Australian Taxation Office, you may also be entitled to a one-off lump-sum payment from July 2012.
For example, if your child completed high school at the end of 2011, or if you received Family Tax Benefit Part A for a school aged child for part of
the 2011-12 financial year, but not on 8 May 2012.
If you don’t receive an Education Tax Refund payment in June and think you may be eligible, or it wasn't the amount you expected to get, contact us
on 132 468 after 1 July 2012 for assistance.

Ok, my question has been answered.
The $129 I mentioned turned out to be a immunisation allowance for my younger son, and the other day we were paid the $409 for my son in reception. We
have never been paid fortnightly, but always get lumpsum at the end of the year, and our payment was just put in our bank account without having to
wait..

Wow it is alot for one tooth, my daughter had all 4 wisdom teeth removed for $3000. Don`t forget to claim it off your tax as it should have put you
over the medicare threshhold.
