Bunk Beds
Hi!
Needing to buy bunk beds for my girls but have found the few stores I've looked in have very minimal choice.
Just wondering if anyone could recommend any good stores, either online or actual stores.
Thanks |

We just bought a bedroom suite for our daughter and went to many stores my husband defiantly wanted to buy Australian which we were able to and got it
from Snooze, they had bunk beds in there they also have a web page. It's worth having a look on ebay though as lots of people buy them and sell them
as they are not much good i found once the kids get older and they are horrible to make.

Just one thing you don't think of when buying bunk beds and your kids are still short. They will eventually hate the beds (no matter how pretty, and
no matter if the are used as two individual single beds) because bunk beds normally have ends/footboards which annoys kids as they grow tall enough
for their feet to keep hitting the footboard end of the bed.
So you will need to buy them new individual beds when they are teens. We are going through this at the moment. Replaced one bed, but still have
another one to replace (fusspot child hasn't found another bed she likes yet and we've been looking for 6 months).
Oh and check for squeaking too. Our bunk beds squeaked terribly LOL!!

I bought my boys their beds about 3 years ago from Sydney Furniture. Their beds can make a bunk bed when assembled on top of each other or two single
beds, which is the way we have them.

Bunkers is good for that type of thing - I know there is one in WA but not sure about anywhere else. They are online.

Snooze, Harvey Norman, Lilly and Lolly, SuperAmart...you will find that the stores won't stock a lot of models, but once you approach a sales person
they will get out their brochures and you can order them in. Because of limited space and rooms, one of my daughter has the Manhatten Super AMart bunk
bed which is a bit more flexible than the ordinary bunk bed Great for sleepovers and when we have a (adult) guest we shift one of the other kids to
share so the guest has a room to herself/himself. I have seen them listed on ebay and gumtree as well, so I guess you can always buy or sell one
there.

It is now law in Australia for bunk beds to have railing on all sides of the bunk bed (especially the wall side). This is for safety as there have
been some horrific incidents with kids becomming trapped between the bunk and the wall. A new bunk should have this already but a 2nd hand one may be
of the older style.
Also make sure that an adult can sit up on the lower bunk with pleanty of head clearance. There is nothing worse than not being able to sit on the
lower bunk and talk to you kid when they are in bed.

i just purchased mine from Bunkers. I have one that has three beds, two on the bottom in an L shape and one above (middle of the bottom two), it also
has huge storage drawers under. it is a low line one. so the top bed isn't really high up. good luck. they have a store in Blackburn - Melbourne

My mum bought the kids their's from Fantastic furniture. White, wooden with wooden ladder. Sydney's had the exact same one for $200 more. Ours
doesn't squeek has a decent height on the lower bunk, and can be taken apart to make two single beds.
The only thing that is a problem is that the ladder just hooks on so it moves around a bit. My two have manage to actually split the wood at the top
of the ladder. It probably wont last as long as the rest of the bed will. We ended up just buying cheap $90 mattresses, our kids are 7 and 4. Keep in
mind the specs of the bunk bed when shopping for mattresses they need to be quite thin. The cheaper matresses don't last as long, but I expected by
the time the mattresses need replacing they'll be wanting seperate rooms.

Thanks for all the advice! Probably going to get it from Sydney - they have one we like for $399, Super A-mart has the exact same for $499 and Harvey
Norman have it for $599! Don't need anything too flash as the girls will only be sharing a room for a year or so.

My 2 older girls have gone into bunks. They say not until over 8 for most but they were 4 and 3. We went with the Bunkers low-line so I can make the
beds/change sheets without having to climb up and I feel much safer that they are quite low to the ground. They have the railing the whole way around
the top bunk. We got them off gumtree including under bed storage and a huge set of drawers that fit under the top bunk for less than half of what it
would cost us new and they are in great condition.

I have two pieces of advice from experience with bunk beds
- work out where you closest emergency room is for the broken bone late at night
- disconnect any ceiling fans
But then I have boys - girls I'm sure are far more responsible!!!
