How long have you been comping?
I thought I really only started comping 4-5 years ago.....however on
Saturday (first day of Christmas hols)
I started doing a major cupboard cleanout (to families horror and disgust).
Whilst going through our memory boxes (each member has a huge tub for school reports, cherished items) I came across all my old school reports and
letters that mum had handed on to me. Amongst all my old school journals and letters was a letter from TAA dated 1973. Apparently I was a Junior Flyer
and I won a trip for sending in a picture of a TAA plane. Hilarious the letter started with CONGRATULATIONS (Oh, how I love that word!!!!)
LOL - that had my family giggling....darling hubby chuckled and said " it would appear comping has always been in my blood!"
Do other members have similar stories, I wonder?

Yeah I have been comping since I was a kid too
I used to win heaps of stuff from the Sunday papers by sending in answers etc. I used to win us heaps on the radio those days too (gawd with the old
dial up phone - that was a challenge!) - faves were my Flashdance Album and movie tix.
I remember winning mum once a beautiful gold locket because she bought a bottle of Tia Maria. She wasn't bothered sending in the info - so I did!
One of my fave things I won when I was a kid was a limited edition Coles Funny Picture Book
Also one of the funniest things I remember from comping as a kid was
getting through on the radio for a comp and then realising I had to be 18. It was for a Lottos ticket. I yelled out to mum and she came running and
I just threw her on the phone. The fellow on the other end was 'supposedly' an Irish leprochaun, and he was making mum do all of this stuff for the
ticket including sing with him. She could have killed me afterwards LOL (but she did get the ticket)

I remember my first big raffle win.
I was 18, and there were a couple of boys selling tickets in our main street. I was going to walk past, but they talked me into buying one....I only
bought ONE.
A few weeks later I got the winning phone call....it was a huge Christmas stocking full of toys, games, alcohol and cartons of smokes, lol.
I think that is what got me hooked on comping.

As far back as I can remember. Used to do colouring in comps when I was a kid and really anything that had a form where you need to put details and
post.
I blame my Mum Before I was born my Mum won a comp, a
years worth of groceries. I think she had to spend heaps and save tops off boxes etc. Must have driven my poor father mad I think LOL
So it's passed down. I must have watched her behaviour and the comp bug was passed on. Before the internet I was very limited on what I could enter
due to not having much money. Everything cost, from buying magazines to posting the entry etc. So the internet was an awesome tool for entering comps
when on a limited budget.

My first comp win was from Fatcat and Veronica when I was 8 years old. I remember the parcel full of Disney stuff, vouchers for mini-bike rides
(wasn't allowed), sample looies and having to share
When I was 9 the school had a lucky stick comp and i kept having to look for Finnagain because I kept winning bottles of wine and they wouldn't give
it to me. The night before I got married he brought out one of the bottles of wine which I had made him promise to keep for me because i didn't want
to share my prizes with anyone!
But began doing it earnestly 4 and a bit years ago when i came back from great hoiday to Europe and decided there must be a way of going back where
someone else will pay! And it worked - - but now I'm happy to share

I won the first raffle I ever bought a ticket in, when I was 4, and my Granny used to entertain me during school holidays by giving me the Womens
Weekly comps to do (in the days when it came out weekly)...she used to have to buy several copies so we could do them in pencil first then write them
in neatly. I used to enter the Sunday comic comps and won some small prizes and MONEY...5/-, awesome!!
I started comping again when I was at uni when Family Circle mag started
and used to have some nice comps (BBQ, crock-pot) for stuff I needed. I entered stuff pretty randomly for 20 years or so (encouraged my kids to do the
Sunday papers so they would earn some treats occasionally) and won quite a few runner-up prizes, but had my first big win in 1994, a family trip to
Disneyworld, and have comped avidly since then.
So, in answer to your question, more than 50 years.

wow some really interesting stories here. Ive been comping seriously for
five weeks now, but I used to enter and win lots of comps when I was younger and even all through my teens with raffels and a few wins here and there
from thats life as well. Can't believe I didn't take it more seriously sooner.
I think I reveresed the comping gene, as my mum is now just as hooked as I
am

I've been seriously comping for about 10 years but have comped all my
life.
I entered lots of Sunday newspaper competitions as a child and won
"awards" - no great prizes back then. I remember posting an entry to New Idea and heard another kid say "that girl posted a letter without a stamp
on it" I felt so bad - I think that was the first letter I'd ever
posted!
When I was a teenager I wanted to enter lots of radio comps but as we didn't have a phone I had to run down to the corner to the phonebox so rarely
entered those. I did win a $100 voucher to spend on clothes and that went a long way then!

My Mum would enter random products comps when I was little, and then when I was a kid I would always enter the comps in TV Hits and the Sunshine Coast
Daily etc, winning little bits and pieces, and then hit the big time when I won a trip to Sydney in a Discovery Channel comp when I was 12. From then
on I was PROPERLY addicted.
For my birthdays, my parents would buy me boxes of stamps and envelopes - because that's all I wanted as presents, and one year when I was about 12
they got me a self inking stamp with all my details, to save me writing them on the backs of envelopes. I still use it now, and I'm 23 (I still have
the same details because I still live at home)!
I only discovered Lottos about 3 years ago, but had always been a comper. I'm so glad I found it though, my wins have definitely sky rocketed!
So I guess about 13-14 years. But I've been a serious comper since joining Lottos.

I've been a serious comper for about 3-4 years now but ever since the age of 12 I have been dabbling in it here and there, I guess it's always been
in my blood.
I think I'm pretty hooked on it now and forever...
I still haven't won REALLY BIG, although some would say I have, I'm still waiting but I guess all good things come to those who wait!!!

Can I say sometimes tooooo long
About 20 years.
But it's an addiction...I just can't stop.
Maybe I need to start a group called Competition Addicts Anonymous ( CAA )
I don't think I will ever stop....well until I die
