Hi OneCLICKwonder

I also have finished the Cashwords Crossword, and the Baffler but the Stinker (and it is a Stinker) has me a bit stumped.

Do you have an answer for
121a - The a of p.a
179a - Swallow
137d - etching acid, aqua

I am three quarters of the way through it - but would really like to fill in those 3 answers, so I can move on.

I haven't even attempted the Cryptic yet.

Cheers
Carolgal

Dutchy - 12-11-2008 @ 08:34 AM

179a = imbibe

OneCLICKwonder - 15-11-2008 @ 03:54 PM

Hi Lovatt's Lovers

I have now finished everything in Colossus 119. (Crack The Cryptic answers in first posting above)

The only thing different I have is:

255d in the Stinker - Kenyan dress cloth ...... Answer = KANGA

(Hope you haven't sent in your entry yet Dutchy? I'm pretty sure it was used in a Lovatt's crossword not that long ago)

Reference:

The kanga is a cotton cloth. Since the last quarter of the nineteenth century it has been worn by women as a dress. It has spread inland to Somalia, the Komores and Madagascar.

GOOD LUCK :) OCW

Dutchy - 15-11-2008 @ 10:28 PM

Hi OneCLICKwonder

Thanks for pointing out that 'typo', I obviously didn't check my submission. Sorry about that ladies. Will be more careful in future.

Dutchy

elainepat - 16-11-2008 @ 07:48 AM

ooh dear..big demon and now only half stinker done:o my fault I resolved to fill in answers more neatly ;) Please keep copies of answers will get back to you asap.:):)

OneCLICKwonder - 28-11-2008 @ 08:09 AM

Hi elainepat

Hope all is going well with the Colossus?

Can you confirm that: "Eye Fluid" in the BAFFLER is: RHEUM?

And did you notice that on Page 20 where THE JUDGE SUMS UP.....in the third column (4th paragraph) it says:

"Some who thought they were INVINCIBLE didn't make is passed 24ac when they put INVINCABLE in answer to 'Unbeatable'.

Shouldn't it be: didn't make it PAST 24ac ???? :)

elainepat - 28-11-2008 @ 09:43 AM

Hiya OCW,
I can confirm "RHEUM" for baffler went thru dictionary for that....but I'm stuck on something obvious right at top Doomed but expensive project..B?OND?G?LE

and I stuck on some in stinker but will get back haven't checked them all..:)

OneCLICKwonder - 28-11-2008 @ 12:05 PM

Thanks elainepat for confirming RHEUM.

The answer you need for 'Doomed but expensive project'

= BOONDOGGLE

' a wasteful or impractical project or activity often involving graft '.

Let me know which other answers you need when you have checked everything else.

GOOD LUCK :) OCW

Birdgirl - 12-12-2008 @ 01:51 PM

I'm really stuck on the stinker 24a Painful journey,via....
Could anyone please help?

OneCLICKwonder - 12-12-2008 @ 04:31 PM

Hi Birdgirl

The answer you need is: via....DOLOROSA

Hope that helps?

OCW :)

Birdgirl - 13-12-2008 @ 11:17 AM

Thank you so much for that OCW - would never have got that and just hate to get to the end of a Xword with one answer missing.

dawn1004 - 15-12-2008 @ 02:50 PM

arrrhh just about finished the Colossus.. I have that one dreaded answer to fill in....

8D Accept - I have d_c_i_e

I'm having a real blank (can only think decline - which is the opposite!)

Sorry to ask what is prob one of the easiest clues.

I'm off now to complete the rest of the comps in this book. I finished off the Big book comps just an hour or so ago, and now I'm busting a gut trying to complete this book.... I just don't know why I always leave it to the last minute to do so!!

In between I'm watching the final of survivor...

elainepat - 16-12-2008 @ 09:17 AM

hiya dawn, similar problem just about mail found one clue undone. so

8d..receive
6a..satirist

Clue I missed in stinker.

34d trumpet mute..T?R?I?O

dawn1004 - 16-12-2008 @ 10:36 AM

oooh thank you so much....

I had Parodist for 6a and that is where I came unstuck.

Thank you...

OneCLICKwonder - 16-12-2008 @ 11:03 AM

Hi elainepat

I bet you have MASTIF for 32across in the Stinker????

What you need is: MASSIF

And 34down: Trumpet mute is: SORDINO

I bet you were looking for something starting with a T ?

GOOD LUCK :) OCW

elainepat - 17-12-2008 @ 07:00 AM
