Liveguide is giving away 3 Double Passes to see Roberta Flack With The Queensland Orchestra. All seats are A Reserve.
Ends 2 Feb 2009 (AEDT)

(WOL)To be in the running to win, just reply to this thread, naming your favourite Roberta Flack song. Tell us in less than 100 words why it is your favourite song. Winners will be drawn on Monday the 2nd of February, to attend the show on the 4th of February at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. All tickets are A Reserve.

Roberta Flack is set to perform a truly memorable concert. With her immense appeal, not only to the baby boomers and traditional jazz and orchestral music lovers, but anyone who listens to hip-hop or R&B knows her influence is as strong today as it ever was.

Classically trained on the piano from an early age, Ms. Flack received a music scholarship at 15-years-old to attend Howard University. After several years as a high school English teacher, she was discovered while singing at a Washington, DC club by jazz musician Les McCann. She was signed to Atlantic Records and went on to create musical history. In 1972, a re-release of her song, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, from her first LP, zoomed to number one and remained there for six weeks, becoming that year's biggest hit.

What followed was a string of hits, including Where Is the Love (a duet with former Howard University classmate Donny Hathaway), Killing Me Softly With His Song, Feel Like Makin' Love, The Closer I Get to You, Tonight I Celebrate My Love, and Set the Night to Music. In 1999, she received a Star on Hollywood’s legendary Walk of Fame.

Liveguide is giving away 3 Double Passes to see Jose Carreras with the Queensland Orchestra in Brisbane.

(WOL)To go in the running to win one of three double passes to Carreras' performance at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, simply answer this question: what is your favourite opera, and why? All entries should be written in less than 50 words.

All winners will be drawn on Monday February 2nd, to attend the concert on Friday February 6.

Born in December 1946, in Barcelona, Spain, José Carreras was always destined to sing. Passengers aboard boats travelling from Spain to Argentina and the customers of his mother's hair salon would listen to him and legend has it he would lock the bathroom door so he could sing uninterrupted. At age eight he first performed on radio. At 11, he starred in his first role with the Barcelona Opera. It was the beginning of a spectacular career and at 18, the soprano voice of the young Carreras changed into the tenor voice that has made him ‘the voice of the century’.

Particularly eminent in the operas of Verdi and Puccini, his career has encompassed over 60 roles on stage and in the recording studio. His showcase albums include Andrea Chenier, La bohème, Tosca, Werther, Don Carlo, Carmen, La forza del destino, I pagliacci, L’elisir d’amore and Un ballo in maschera. He gained fame with a wider audience as one of The Three Tenors with a concert program which began in 1990 and continued until 2003. Carreras is also known for his humanitarian work as the president of the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation (La Fundació Internacional Josep Carreras per a la Lluita contra la Leucèmia), which he established following his own recovery from the disease in 1988.
