Rules were at: http://blog.musicnotes.com/contest/

(I've been using musicnotes.com for a couple of years to buy and download my sheet music. I came across this contest which requires a bit of effort, but looks like fun for those more musically talented than me. The contest appears to run every month.)

Throughout the month, we will be posting contest news, instructions and information on our company blog. Here are the highlights of the contest:

(1) Download the free song of the month from Musicnotes.com at: Musicnotes.com Free Sheet Music Download. You may also choose a song from our list of Musicnotes Editions.

(2) Record a video of your musical performance for your song (on any instrument, including voice). The sheet music provided in the free download is an arrangement from our MusicNotes Editions. When you download the song, we provide you with the right to perform the song publicly. You may also arrange the song to fit your musical proficiency.

(3) Upload your YouTube! video to our monthly contest group. Instructions for uploading a video to YouTube! are located here.

a. YouTube! accepts *.wmv, *.avi, *.mpeg, or *.mov format for videos
b. Musicnotes.com will approve your video around the first day of the following month for voting purposes.
c. Any videos submitted that do not follow the contest rules or do not relate to the free song of the month or a Musicnotes Edition will be disqualified and not approved.
d. Any ratings added to the video prior to the open voting period will not be taken into consideration for the contest.
(4) Send us an email to musiclovers AT musicnotes DOT com to confirm your entry.

b. Please include the name of the song in your YouTube! video’s title.
(5) Musicnotes.com will approve your video in our YouTube! monthly contest channel for public comments and ratings on the first of every month. If there are a limited number of entries, we may approve the video beforehand.

a. You will receive a personalized email about your contest entry from musicnotes.com once we have added your YouTube! video to our channel, and have promoted the entries for public voting.
(6) Musicnotes.com will begin contest winner consideration in the second week of the following month.

(7) Winners will be announced and rewarded toward the middle of the following month. (i.e. October’s contest winner will be announced mid-November.)

Musicnotes.com YouPerform Contest Submission Guidelines
Eligibility(a) You do not have to be an existing Musicnotes.com customer to be eligible.

(b) Musicnotes.com employees, affiliates and their immediate family are disqualified from submitting videos, but may rate submissions.

Requirements and Permissions(a) Only music performances submitted for the free sheet music download of the month or a song that is indicated as a Musicnotes Edition will be considered.

(b) Only the music performer may submit their performance for consideration. If the music performer is under the age of 18, then the legal guardian may submit their performance. A performance is defined as: the musician playing or singing the song without the aid of an additional soundtrack or music recording using a method called “synching” or similar means.

(c) Music performers may submit their performance to the contest more than once.

(d) Music performers may submit multiple performances of the same song to the contest.

(e) Music Notes gives permission to performers to post video content of any contest-related works or Musicnotes.com’s other arrangements (also known as Music notes Editions) located at: Musicnotes Editions on Musicnotes.com

i. Musicnotes.com’s free sheet music downloads and Musicnotes Editions are public domain music, arranged by Musicnotes.com and are legal to perform, arrange and record without copyright restriction.
ii. Performers must submit their own work for consideration in the contest as the performance “belongs” to them. In the case of performers under the age of 18, the legal guardian may submit their performance to the contest on the performer’s behalf.
iii. Performances of other Musicnotes Editions, while permitted, are not eligible for a given contest unless the free song for the given month is the song being performed.
iv. Votes made prior to the beginning of public voting may be excluded.
Contest Judging and Fair Use(a) Musicnotes.com will judge entries on a combination of the number of votes and the quality of the performance. The number of votes and a particular rating, by themselves, are not an indication of having a winning performance. If there is a tie or too few votes to clearly announce a winner, Musicnotes.com may judge the performances internally.

(b) Musicnotes.com reserves the right to disqualify contestants or “void” votes to preserve the integrity of the Contest. Reasons for doing so might include:

i. Automated or mechanical votes
ii.Voting multiple times on a particular rating to inflate results
iii. Submitting a performance that the entrant did not perform
iv. Creating multiple, fictitious accounts to artificially inflate results
v. Inappropriate behavior (accepting payment for votes, spamming, etc.) to inflate results
(c) A “tie” may be defined as one or more performers whose performance quality is perceived to be similar, in combination with the public’s ratings and the professional opinion of Musicnotes.com. The judges at Musicnotes.com may either a) declare a true winner or b) split the gift certificate value pending review.

Ownership and Rights of Use(a) The musical performance is the property of the performer.
(b) Musicnotes.com reserves the right to promote and repost the performance entry through our company blog or website, social media, affiliates and other Internet, advertising and public relations channels.
Prizes and NotificationsWinners will be notified no later than the last day of the following month in which the contest began. i.e.If the contest was announced for October, then the contest winner would be announced no later than November 30, 2008. Winners will be notified via email; winners are responsible for providing an active, working email account to Musicnotes.com for the purpose of contest communication. Contest communication might include: notification that the entry was received, when voting begins, who the winner was, etc.

Privacy StatementThe privacy of Musicnotes.com’s customers and contest participants is important to us. Your email address will not be sold and will follow the guidelines through our privacy policy. (Per Musicnotes.com’s privacy statement.)
