Adelaide area recommendations
Hi guys
I've just found out the location of my mystery weekend this weekend - Adelaide.
I went there several years ago, so I've done most of the city things, the museum with the disgusting horse hanging, the zoo, a trip to Glenelg (which
I'll prob do again) but what other things should I do? I plan to hire a car and head to handorf and montaro zoo - what other areas should I get to.
I have a total of 2 1/2 days. Was thinking car hire for 1 day but could go two, need to book tomorrow, so I'd love some ideas.
I'm not into wine and not a foodie. I'm interested in quaint, pretty unusual, historical etc.
I think someone mentioned going up Mt Lofty at night?
Thanks in advance. |

May be a bit far given time restraints but Clare Valley is a gorgeous place to visit. Our tour included a stop at Martindale Hall of Picnic at
Hanging Rock fame. Mum & I were neither wine or scenery fans but we thoroughly enjoyed the full day tour. Otherwise do recommend Hahndorf, been
twice & only missed it again last time due to visiting on a cruise & it was so hot we stayed on board!
Kangaroo Island was nice but not worth a full day out of a weekend.
Adelaide Entertainment Centre is a great venue if you are lucky enough that there is a show on you might like. We got last minute tickets to a
Farnham/Warlow/ONJ concert front row which was totally novel & unplanned. Takes me back! |

Hi Kaz30 , you could go from hahndorf through strathalbyn and down to goolwa ( fleurieu penisula ) through the back roads of the adel hills
strathalbyn is a pretty little place and has a nice main street full of antique shops and pretty parks . Travelling on to goolwa it's an old river
port and on weekends it has a paddleboat that does short trips on the river . there are also cruises that go up the Coorong and past the murray mouth
.
You can also drive out to murray mouth on Hindmarsh island . Can also drive from Goolwa beach but thats on the beach and 4WD only so not for rental
cars . There is the old steam train between Goolwa and Victor harbor. over at Victor there is the horse drawn cart that goes across to granite island
Theres a lot to do on the fleurieu so may just want to do a day trip from adel instead of combining with Hahndorf either way its about 1hr /1 hr 20
depending on where you are staying in adel |

We loved Port Adelaide...easy to get to by bus or train, it's the historic port area with lots of original buildings, a lighthouse, busy markets etc.
We did a free walking tour out of the visitor centre (organised in advance) and the river tour. |

We live at Semaphore Beach which is Adelaides prettiest (slightly bias) beach! Worth a visit rather than to Glenelg which can be rather touristy! Port
Adelaide is fantasti, especially if you appreciate historical architecture. Lots of start up cafes...some good, some are ok. Worth a wander. |

Samstag Museum of Art Movie Portraits

Friday 14 September — Friday 30 November 2018
A collaborative project between the National Film and Sound Archive and the National Portrait Gallery, Starstruck: Australian Movie Portraits reveals
never-before-seen stories of Australian cinema. Through photographic portraits, candid behind-the-scenes shots, rare film posters, casting books and
original costumes, Starstruck celebrates the past and present of Australian film—including watershed moments in cinema and iconic visions of
Australian life—and also offers a glimpse into the experiences of the actors and crew. The exhibition explores how cinema portraiture can create a
bridge between the magic of a movie’s fictional worlds and the realities of filmmaking.
A National Film and Sound Archive of Australia and National Portrait Gallery exhibition supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and
Outreach Program, presented by Samstag Museum of Art for the 2018 Adelaide Film Festival. |

Port Adelaide also has a nice maritime museum and a little lighthouse you can climb
The old Adelaide Gaol is a good historic thing to do too. |

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went out to Port Adelaide and did the Dolphin Cruise then walked out to Semaphore Beach beautiful spot!
Next day went to Hahndorf after a daytime stop at Mount Lofty, then wandered through several of the towns with stops at Melba's Chocolate & No 5. |
