If I posted a comp on lottos- how does the site know me?
Lol no idea how to explain this in one line for the topic but anyways..
I posted a comp on here for Blanky4me.com a few weeks back.
I recd an email yesterday saying the following:
Hi Sarah
I just wanted to say a big thank you to you for posting our Deluxe Gift Set giveaway on lottos.com.au. It brought a lot of traffic to our website.
Thanks again, keep in touch.
Warm Regards
Im happy that they are happy but very curious to know how they know it was posted on lottos & how they know I posted it. I didnt even enter the
comp. It's a bit strange does anyone agree? Any ideas how they would know I posted it on lottos? Maybe they are a member here

Member's email addresses are never made available to anyone.
The site probably obtained your email address because you have it as your MSN info on your member profile.

Yeah that could make sense Andrew.
Thanks. I kinda felt like I was sprung..felt a bit naughty until I read the email said thanks for the traffic to their site so I guess its a good
thing to them.
I know some sites dont like their comps shared (like the book site a while back) |

I have an online shop. If anyone posts a link to my site, then that link appears in my C Panel (as it is called with my site) which means I can click
on it and find out who posted the address. So someone obviously did and then checked your contact details on Lottos.
Seeing most sites want more exposure and more visits, then I would imagine the majority would be happy.
I guess as far as your name they guessed from your nicname. If they tried mine they would be in a pickle |

I've decided to remove some of the info displayed when viewing member profiles.
Members yahoo, msn, icq etc. will no longer be shown as it has the potential to be abused if left as it was.

My gosh, is ICQ still around?
I remember loving ICQ about 7 years ago (I think about 7!), with the little orange or green flower icon..... I stopped using it once I started to have
troubles with the desktop pc, since then have changed to laptop
back to the topic at hand, maybe they'll send you a little something for graditude! |

phinnie & Andrew, both spot on!
I recd this email from the website
Hi Sarah
We monitor where the hits on our website come from, and lottos.com.au came up, so we went there and saw the user name of the person who posted the
competition. Then we saw the same user name in our Registered users list, with your name . So we put two and two together.
As a thank you we would like to give you a 20% off promo code to be used in our online shop towards any purchase (no minimum purchase, can be used on
sale items also).
Have a great weekend and thank you for your support.
Warmest Regards
Goes to show some are very grateful for the business whilst some don't like the free marketing |
