If I don't answer my phone will I miss out on winning the Prize?
Hi all,
I often get random numbers calling my mobile and they don't leave a message. A lot of the time it's cold calling or trying to sell you something or to
change companies etc.
My question is am I potentially missing out on winning prizes if I miss their call or would they leave a message and email me also?
Or do they just go to the next winner instead and move on?
Thanks guys |

Great questionDepending on the promotion, ,like if it's a radio comp to play a game or something , you will miss out. If it's a purchase competition, if you are
drawn as a winner, they will call, email and so on. The prize should be yours, though you never know. I hate to miss a call, I answer and if it's
telemarketers, I just say no thank you and have a good day. Hang up before they can say anything else. Better than wondering if it's a winning
call |

Every promoter is different, but yes, there is a possibility you will miss out on a prize if you do not answer your phone. That's why I answer every
call and am polite to the caller. If it's clearly a spam call and a number is displayed, I'll block that number.
It's part of comping that you'll get lots of phone calls, text and email. Companies create competitions to sell product and/or build up their
database. And tv comps are aimed at increasing viewers and ratings. It's all about them, not us. |

Good question. It will be interesting to hear the feedback from longtime compers since they've had more exposure in this area.
That's totally crap if they happily 'move on' if you don't answer your phone. At work, I am not allowed to answer my phone so there is nothing I can
do during the day. So far, any of the major wins I have had, they have either tried to call and left a message or emailed me. I don't enter any
competitions where you are required to answer the phone ie: radio because I simply cannot during the day.
To think that all of our efforts can simply vanish because we are not available when they are, feels unfair but I know's it just business to them;
especially when it's a purchase or WOL competition.

The question is how would you know if you missed a prize? |

Most will either try again later or try to contact you via another method, like email. This is where you have to read t&c because some will
actually spell it out that if you don't answer, they'll move on to the next person.
And as Timewalker mentioned, you probably wouldn't know, except when they don't use a private number to call you, then you call them back knowing it's
a promoter for a comp you've entered, but the person who answers tells you they don't know who called you.

I should add, missing a call from a promoter isn't always a WPC. Sometimes they just want to talk!
I've had several calls from a particular radio station that wants me on air for my opinion on a topic. From entering some of their comps, they know
where I live and if there's a topic relevant to my area, they've called and asked me if I'd be happy to comment. So don't think everyone who appears
on the radio has rung in, sometimes they call you.
And just last week I got a call from a tv station that I won a previous competition from, wanting to know if I would go on air this week as a winner
of one of their prizes! I politely declined. I have a better face for radio. |

My opinion is... if you are seriously comping... answer the phone. You just never know. |

I often don't have my competition phone within reach after years of it's silence LOL but if I do get a missed call I will google the number first. 99%
of the time it comes back as spam etc so I don't bother about it. If I am close to it and it rings I answer it. I have a cheap prepaid phone that I
don't use to make calls as a comping phone seperate from my regular phone which I started when I first started comping thinking I would get lots of
calls LOL but am thinking I might just ditch it and use my normal phone because it is so often annoyingly silent |

Years ago I won an Uncle Tobys comp. I am confident that their t&c did NOT say that if you didn't answer they would move on to the next....but
that s what the girl told me on the phone. Odds are at some point you may miss out |

One would think that unless specifically stated and made clear in T&C's, it would be illegal - Or a serious breach of them. Problem is we will
never know if we miss a call and they 'move on. I answer every call, and also block marketing calls. You never know who it is - and although rare, it
is quite exciting to receive a WPC.
Almost all comps want your email address. Although no doubt for matketing purposes, they can use it to contact you. Some t&C's do state they take
no responsibility if it goes to spam or missed. But if you are on top of t&C's and draw/notification dates, as well as checking Lottos for winners
lists, you should not miss out. |

there was/is a tv show that has hotel stays and getaways in victoria that has T&Cs that do state if you do not answer the call they will call the
next in line. Not sure if still running or if still included, but at one point they did have those in their terms |
