Rhyming

I have been practicing so hard on my 25 wol that I find myself breaking out into rhyme in everyday conversation!Only with the kids mind you!
I think they' sack me at work if I carried on like that there!:o
I could just be addicted I think!

After reading some of the entries I find myself staying up at night trying to think of some wacky rhymes!!! LOL
My partner thinks I am going nuts:P

i found myself thinking up a nice rhyming 25 wol this morning when i went to the pantry and found one of our jars had a comp on it. Problem was, the comp finished in november! :(

keep a record

As an enthusiastic new comper, I have started a folder and am keeping a record of all my 25 wol entries. You never know what the judges might be looking for and a slogan that didn't win you one holiday might come up trumps (perhaps with slight modification) in a different comp with a different judging panel. Presumably if you haven't actually won with a slogan there is no reason not to try with the same one again in another competition!:D

Nellie I've started keeping a record of my 25wol too, its interesting to look back and see what words won a comp for you.:)

So do you think they like poems? I used to just write anything but it does seem that most of the winning WOL are poems.

Depends on the judges, they all like different things and then some are draws. Stick to what you are best at.
Funny looking at this thread, I posted above when my daughter was 5...she's nearly 13 now!

And I VERY rarely enter with Rhymes any more LOL!!!

3littlepigs

Congrats on being such a long standing comper!

Do you think 25 wol comps need to be rhymes all the time? My thoughts are that the judges must see some pretty terrible rhyming entries so perhaps a snappy smart answer might get their attention quicker.

I am new at this comping caper, so I'm stuck in the "rhyme rut" but I do love 25 wol 'cause they keep the grey matter working.

What do you think?

The only WOL that I've won with contained only 5 words, .......and they didn't rhyme.

As it's been said, it depends whether it was what the judges were looking for, or, was it just drawn??

This thread is over 7 years old!!!

Depends on how good your answer is & so it doesn't matter whether it rhymes or not as long as it is outstanding I guess.

I'm sure, like me, that people have won with both types.

One of the best I've ever read, a few years back now, rhymed & it won.

Yes you never know what the judges are looking for. However nearly all of my prizes, including two overseas trips, have been rhyming WOLs.

Most sites seem to like poems. ACP Magazines do, so do Foxtel and numerous others. However, Gadget Guy and Mens Health may not (no one knows just what they're looking for). Total Travel don't seem to either.
I once heard a comp being promoted on a show on TV and Mick Molloy (who I presume was one of the judges) said We don't want any stupid poems either. Guess 'he' doesn't like 'em. I never entered it. :P

Bandkh I would go with a short and snappy answer over a rhyme personally. It depends on the judges though, you never know what they will like...or whether after all your hard work it's a draw!

How amazing seeing this thread! 7 and a half years elapsed between posts!!
Like you 3littlepigs my daughter has gone from a 10 year old child to a 17 year old lady over this time!
Cool to see we are still comping our little hearts out!
Still don't think I have got the hang of WOLs yet!!!
I think it may depend when in the proceedings the judges read YOUR answer...if it is one of the first they read and it is a clever rhyme they may take more notice than when they have been trawling through thousands of entries and they all start to blend together!

I hardly ever rhyme, always try for a witty or clever answer.

But if I cant think of one, I'll resort to a rhyme!

As most people have said, you neve can tell what they are after (judges).

Well now it's 2012, and i'll keep this thread going, because it's interesting.

Recently I won a 25WOL comp (every day there was a prize given away and you could enter as many times as you liked) So I entered lots of what I thought was very witty answers and rhymes, plus a few very "ordinary" entries, and to my surprise it was the very ordinary entry that won it.
There was nothing impressive about it that i could see, but obviously what judges were looking for

I have entered a vast number of WOLs and I have two that have won. Both were not rhyming . One was from MindFood, the other from Body and Soul.

2013...$7,104
2014...$3,240
(long break)
2023...$1,128
2024...$186

When I entered the Ellen Degeneres competition I did rhyme my answer.
I thought it was ok and I would have been happy with a runner up prize.
I ended up winning (still to take the trip)
So you really don't know
You just have to have a go

Hey that rhymes!!!:P:P:P

Recent WOL comp won $5000 with a rhyme (wasnt me though)

....every comp I have won in the last 18 years has ryhmed!
posted 9-4-2012 @ 08:08 PM www

Same here, All my wins have been with rhymes.
posted 9-4-2012 @ 08:28 PM www

I'd love to read some of these. Is there a [place were we can most likely find winning entries to read and admire?

Prize wins 2014: $37680
Prize wins 2011: $13000
previous years about $25000

The harder you work the luckier you get

I've only been entering comps since Feb this year (trainer pants and L plates on here) . I've only won two WOL comps. One was a rhyme. The other one did not rhyme.
