REDUNDANCY

I cant believe this actually happened to ME. It happens to Other people but I was made redundant this week!!! Shock. Horror. I really need to win a major prize. Has anyone else been made redundant and if so how are they coping emotionally? I am pretty confident of finding another job but need a few days/weeks to get my head together.

I was made redundant, but it wasn't a surprise and I was glad - i know many people aren't in that same boat.

The job situation here in Canberra is pretty strong and it's been pretty easy to get contract work in govt policy. Seek (jobsearch website) has become my new best friend (after Lottos!)

I hope everything works out okay for you, and that they paid you a decent period of notice.

Yes a few weeks ago....was hard this is my first week as a dole bludger (working harder than nything to find something new)

worst thing for me was no notice was given that it was comeing and I was only temping for the company so no pay out....no moneysaved as of then....

Applications going left right and centre and no responses.
I think the hardest thing is most jobs are with an agency so you have to go there for an interview then if you are lucky then go to the company for an interview sometimes 2...

I hate life at the moment and I think my kids are suffering the most. We have always lived life and buy treats for them all the time now they dont understand why they cant have this and that...
but only been 3 weeks for m and I have faith a job will turn up soon

did your company offer any outplacement services? If so, definitely use them as they'll help with your CV, interview practice etc.

Yes, having multiple interviews for the one job is very tough, especially if your confidence has been shaken by something like this. You can't control whether someone gives you a job or not, but you can control how many you apply for so just concentrate on that - it'll pay off eventually.

Good luck.:)

Got made redundant a couple of months back.
but I was lucky..it was my choice to accept or not...
I accepted not liking the alternatives
I also got a reasonably good payout so money is not a big worry.
I will have togo back to work eventually if I dont have a VERY decent size win first.
I did notice that it took a couple of weeks just to get my head around the Not Employed idea.
zI have been lucky enough to look at it as the holiday I was due to have anyway.
Take a step back if you can and away from the feeling of not being wanted and listen for that new door opening that is sure to come your way

Good luck with the future and what it brings..

Yeah same here. My kids were bought up not having much of a life because of it. My daughter became independent and got a job pretty quickly because of it though. Can't say the same for my Aspergers son unfortunately...;)

Good luck in finding other work though miakeira.. It's kind of like being a driver and losing your licence I spose but I've had neither so can't associate.;):)

I got made redundant in July 2009 from an office job in a nursing home.

Got a job in August in retail (merchandising). A complete change of career - I didn't have any experience. Just answered an advert in Seek.com, got interviewed over the phone and got the job.

miakeira perhaps look at what type of work you might like to do next?
