Travel Suggestions??

I thought that perhaps since all our Lottos members are such a well travelled bunch, that maybe we could have a pinned thread with Travel Location Suggestions??
I've noticed we frequently have suggestions requested, but they disappear after a few weeks, so I thought this may avoid duplicate writing.
Positives and Negatives and also any MUST SEE shops/sights or places would be good.

What do you think??

I think it's a great idea!

I love reading all the hints & tips from people who have been there!

Would love to see this on the forum!

Does anyone know anything about how I could go about this? Do I need a moderator assistance to make sure the thread doesnt disappear??
I'm going to be asking some Cook island Tips and Hints soon, so thought it might be a good start!
=)

Fiji - Captain Cook or Blue Lagoon Cruises are the absolute highlight of any Fiji holiday, usually plenty of specials on offer, check out the websites.
Shangrila (Fijian) hotel is INCREDIBLY busy in Australian or NZ school kids holidays. We were very glad to have paid extra for an Ocean side room. Separate quiet pool, huge nice rooms and a bit of peace!
If you have a choice, I personally would swap Fiji for Vanuatu. More to see, more to do, closer and some amazing special offers going atm.

Cook Islands - Just remember its closed on Sundays!
Most flights arrive and leave at ungodly hours, but there are a few with reasonable hours, put in the research and know what flights you want, so they don't book you something truly ugly;)

we looked at vanuatu, but would prefer an all inclusive deal..(accom, food & drinks) and vanuatu didnt have much that way. We will be travelling with friends, so hubby & I with our 2 daughters, and friends & their 2 sons

Le Lagon has all inclusive its the sister of Naviti and the Warwick. I wouldnt go that way though unless you like to drink quite a lot, meals are easily found elsewhere, better quality and cheaper.
I'm sure either the Warwick or the Naviti would suit you very nicely in Fiji, the Warwick is more upmarket, so depends on what you want.
Check the flight times. Air Pacific flies back in the morning most days and that means a VERY early start from the coral coast. We were at the Shangrila so probably an hour closer to Nadi and I think our pick up was something like 5.30 or 6am. Worth a look!

Captain Cook cruises are all meals and we really did think it was an amazing way to see the real Fiji. We went on the week long northern explorer (or called something like that.)

Sueprize, can't recommend highly enough the Coongoola day cruise. Takes you to a turtle hatchery and some of the best spots for snorkelling. Enjoy your trip.

Where are you staying sueprize?
We have been twice in the last year...absolutely love the place!

Hideaway Island is great fun for snorkling, my kids love it. We don't take a tour, just grab a taxi but ask the hotel how much you should pay before you go. If there's no taxi hanging around when you get back to shore walk out to the main road and a bus or taxi won't be long in turning up.
We also loved the cascades at Mele, a long hot walk up hill but lovely for swimming and a great view when you get most of the way up.
Loved the church service on Sunday, but its probably best for regular churchgoers, fairly long and they will invite you to stand up and introduce yourself. We were invited to stay for lunch afterwards but had a sick daughter so headed back.
Take a comprehensive first aid and medicine kit. We used ours!
Take hand sanitiser and use it regularly, there were some vicious gastro bugs floating around the second time we were there.
If you love snorkling and are taking your own gear you could also take a taxi to either Benjour or Paradise Cove, both have very accessible reefs that are beautiful.
If you like a drink take your duty free, alcohol is very expensive. You can get mixers, soft drinks and french wine at the big Au Bon Marche Numbatu supermarket near Le Lagon. If you go there have a pineapple crumble tart for me!!!
Which reminds me of the patisserie downtown YUM!!! Town side of the markets on the other side of the street.
Tarte Citron to die for, and a clean toilet right up the back!
The other pattiserie also has a clean toilet and AIR CONDITIONING! Although the airconditioning is probably not so critical at the moment, both times we went were in summer.

The main thing to remember in Vanuatu is to slow down, nothing happens in a hurry and sometimes you have to ask several times for things to happen at all...if you work with that you will have a blast!

There's lots more, if you have anything specific maybe u2u me!

All I can say is - You lucky duck!

Cruise - held needed for a last minute booking!

A window of opportunity has come up for a last minute holiday (between 01/08/09 & about 18/08/09) - I have my heart set on a cruise (preferably departing from Sydney or Brisbane).

Does anyone know about last minute cruise deals, perhaps waiting lists for cancellation - where to get them etc?

Hubby went to a travel agent but don't think they even checked the computer! I have looked at heaps of cruising sites on web but nothing is even close to these dates.

Any suggestions ?
