That's Life & Take5- has any won from them???

posted 17-6-2012 @ 10:29 AM www

Ive won quite often - but nothing overly exciting. Just really buy it for the cars.
Ive often made the comment I would prefer to have a mag that offered more quality and less quanitity for prizes.

Went in them for years and nothing. A few comical remarks here with this thread. entertaining!

I have bought them every week ever since they began being published...and it's not just for the possible prizes as I would have given up by now; yes I have won a few small prizes like books, a wall mural, bath products, etc, but I enjoy doing the puzzles, it's good for your brain working out puzzles too.

My mother does them for the puzzles, helps keep her brain active and give her something to do. She's been doing them for atleast 8 years and has only won a set of salt and pepper shakers and a sudoko puzzle book :spin:

I've won a few small prizes from Take 5 but never from That's Life. The quality of the prizes is pretty poor (bit like Reject Shop stuff) so I don't bother anymore.

Never thought of adding up cost, thanks Bridget42 it is over $360 a year with stamps.
Only buy it cos husband likes doing the puzzles & I think well every week someone has to win the car & it could be me & I could sell it & pay my car off!
Won a few things lately from them like perfume & glass bowl but certainly not $360 worth!
Mmmm might have to have a good look at this as cutting back on every other financial area of my life & living on basic costs it has now got me thinking maybe use that money for something else.

Yes, you can do a lot with an extra $360. in your bank account.

And they turn out to be very expensive puzzle books, when you can download and print out so many puzzles and turn them into your own book if you want to for free.

I bought them for many years since they first started but have given up in the last couple of years. The quality of the prizes has really deteriorated. Remember when there was a car AND a holiday each issue as well as other good prizes? For the amount of money I have outlaid over probably 20 years I have had only a few small wins.
I don't really enjoy the content of these magazines and the puzzles aren't very challenging so I don't bother any more.

Yes the quality of prizes has dropped, and they seem to have less variety of prizes....the same cutlery sets and scarfs or beach/thong sets over and over! I think Take 5's prizes are worse than That's Life prizes.

I won a $5000 holiday from Thats Life about 8 years ago!! Had some other small prizes as well!!

I have won only a couple of small prizes. Nothing big yet.

I have won from both, and won the reverse auction months ago from Take 5 and still haven't received the prize. I sent off the money order for them and keep leaving messages and get no replies. I've also emailed with no replies. Really starting to get annoyed actually. You'd think with such a popular magazine that Take 5 would reply to their readers :( Starting to think I'm not going to even get the prize because I had to organise for it to be sent to my work address since I work full time and we close over xmas for almost 3 weeks and I thought I would have got it weeks ago :(

I've had a few little wins - the other day I received a weighing belt for luggage and I thought .... who picks the prizes?
posted 7-7-2013 @ 08:57 AM www

I have done these consistently since the mags started. I think the only thing I have got is a couple of the bonus puzzle books. Certainly no real prizes. I dont know how some people seem to win consistently, I think Murphy always works against me!!!!

And I agree that the quality of the prizes has slipped so that many of the prizes I hope I don't win anyway.

I won a $3000 TV in 2000 from one of these mags - no letter or phone call, just turned up in a van with congrats from the mag attached. I cant remember which one it was. My only ever win from 12 years of doing them. I stopped 3 years ago as I no longer wanted any of the prizes.

Wow the lotto family here is a big one, one would have thought with a car a week, there would have been more lotto people with cars from these magazines. Just my view, but it seems that more cars are won from other competitions other than these magazines.

I've won a nintendo DS and a few cook books but nothing else in years of entering.

I think perhaps lots of people who don't enter other competitions enter these.

Post on their facebook page. You usually get answered straight away then. I was waiting on a cheque from having a photo printed, they replied straight away.

I have won a few small things but to be honest it's never anything I really want... a few months ago I tried buying a few copies each week and sending in multiple entries in the hope of winning the car, but no luck...

I won 2 reverse auctions and had difficulty actually getting the prizes.

The first one was an ipad that took 8 weeks to arrive after calling them twice to ask where it was.

The second was $1000 cash. After 6 weeks the cheque hadn't arrived so I phoned the prize hotline twice in that week without a call back. I called a third time and was told the cheque had been raised and was going to be sent within days. A week later, no cheque. I called back again and the same lady told me the cheque had to be raised and would be sent that week. I became fed up so posted on their facebook page and said I'd be making a complaint to the ACCC if the cheque was not in my mail box by the Friday of that week. The cheque was hand delivered to my address with apologies the next day. The prize hotline lady must have been disciplined as she rang me with a half hearted and obviously instructed apology from management. I've probably been black listed from winning prizes from them now :D
