Another question
Hi
I'm wondering for those who have own big prizes - like cars and holidays etc can you cash them in, give them to someone else or upgrade the holidays
to include more people? Or do you have to take each one as is? |

I've never 'sold' or cashed in any of my trips. However I have been able to extend these holidays without any problems. Depends on the promoter. |

Thanks. I have 5 kids so a 2 adult / 2 child holiday won't work. |

It really does depend on the promoter and the prize.
14 years ago, I won a trip to New Zealand for 4 adults. I wanted to go with my family (hubby & 3 kids - 10, 9 & 1) and they agreed, and let
the baby be included for free.
I recently won a one-week trip to Scotland, and when I asked if I could change the return date (extend my trip to make it one month) they said they
actually expected that to happen, so no problem.
I've never given away or cashed in a trip. The T&C's usually tell you what they will allow in relation to this, so always a good idea to read
them before entering.
Good luck!! |

I think trips vary greatly in what can and cant be done The trip I won O/S had the dates fixed and we were unable to extend at all , still worth it
though |

I have sold all my 3 cars, as far as holidays I have upgraded nearly everyone of them as I have 4 children , one trip was for Miami but I wanted to go
to Daytona , it wasn't a problem to change things and add a few days. Holidays are non transferable generally so it would be most unusual that you
could sell it.Some companys won't budge at all but most are willing to help with changes. |

Not sure why you'd enter to win a holiday, only to sell it?
I want to go on every holiday I enter. |

Snazzie - holidaying with 5 kids isn't always what it's cracked up to be unfortunately! The furthest we can go ATM is Fiji.
Comper girl - 3 cars? Are you serious? |

I sold my prize car and upgraded to a demo model and replaced our 11 year old one which was fabulous, but that's a personal choice and still had to
accept delivery of the prize as is and selling was our responsibility. So no, you can't swap prizes for cash.
Usually other prizes are not able to be converted to cash or very seldom transferred- no. Pretty well always says in the T&C's - not transferrable
etc. So read the T&C's well. Yes, you would normally pay for extra people to go on a holiday win. |

Very rare to hear if anyone transferring a holiday prize, promoters are usually pretty strict. Most of the time you can extend or add extra people, we
have done it many times, but have also had situations where absolutely no changes were allowed.
Our car was a particular vehicle so couldn't change anything about it. Nothing to stop us from driving it home and selling it straight away which is
what we had intended to do when we heard what it was but we all loved it when we got it so have kept it.

We could have extended our holiday to Hawaii, but we had to pay the extra airfare cost and of course accommodation, in the end the return airfares
would have been in the high season, as we were just on the changeover dates and our holiday had to start on a set date so we settled for it as it was
...which was totally amazing anyway |

I've won a holiday every year and I have extended them and added more family members all at my expense. They can be very costly if you don't have
spending money included.
You also have to put into account, passports and Travel Insurance. I have been able to give my sister and son a holiday that I won, but that was years
ago and promoters don't do this anymore.

That's why you need to read terms of holidays carefully. Think about if you need to add more people, extend it. Also think about the spending money.
If none is included or no meals you will need to stump up money you may not have have. Just something to consider before entering. |

Some holidays definitely state cannot be transferred or changed. Don't enter a holiday comp that's not what you want thinking you can extend or change
it. Some promoters will be flexible but many won't. I've never heard of anyone being able to cash in a holiday. And, as others have said, always look
at what's NOT included. Extras can really blow the budget.
A dealership may buy a car from you but, once again, don't depend on it. That was never an option with any of the cars I've won. But of course you can
sell it as soon as you get it. However be aware that as soon as you drive it out of the showroom it is no longer a new car and the price drops
dramatically. Also you may incur an expense if you have to travel to pick up a car unless it is delivered to a dealership close to you. Normally a
dealership will register a car in your name so if you want to transfer ownership to someone else you would have to pay transfer fees and maybe sales
tax. |

Many of the terms and conditions I've read for holidays say the prize is non transferable and can't be exchanged for cash etc, but depending on the
promoter they are usually happy to accommodate your requests.
I won a trip to San Francisco for 2 adults and 2 children and was able to upgrade it to 4 adults at no extra expense. We also extended the trip to LA
and just had to pay for the extra accommodation. |
