Anybody else dislike Facebook competitions?

Anybody else dislike Facebook competitions?

I first started entering competitions in 2010 and 2011 then took a hiatus for a few years. I have started entering them again and it feels that nearly half of competitions are on Facebook. In 2010/2011, there were some Facebook comps but nothing like it is today.

As for the reason I dislike them, after a while your profile just gets spammed by pages you don't care about. Your profile is eventually cluttered by pages you have shared to enter competitions. I prefer it the old fashioned way of entering a simple form. For me, it is quicker and less of a burden.

How does everyone else feel about this? I can see why companies put up comps on Facebook, but I prefer a simple entry form.

Well, you can unfollow the pages, I guess. and, unfortunately, with social media, this is the way things are going.

I don't enter many Facebook comps. I will only enter if you can do it via an application/tab on their page. If I have to share an image or enter via 25 WOL in a post, I move right past it. I am certainly not a fan of them personally.

No facebook or no facebook comps done here.... Reckon it's like selling a little bit of ones soul for every entry....

I'm not a fan of Facebook comps either, especially when you have to put the 25WOL answer in the comments section. Plus there's too much drama for me - either people cheating or judging the winners or sob story answers. Having said that, if there's a great prize that I really want, I do sometimes go over to the dark side and enter them anyway :)

I really dislike facebook competitions too and very rarely enter them. I wish they weren't becoming so common
I don't mind too much if you only have to like to page but I don't bother with the ones where you have to like, share, tag friends and complete a 25 WOL.

I definitely agree with preferring the simple entry form! :)

Dislike is an understatement for me. 2000+ people battling it out for a $15 lipstick or something, all having to share with friends for 'extra' entries. Quite ridiculous. I pick and choose the credible ones with a link to entry form. Dislike sharing, but have done if absolutely necessary to enter. Someone here posted a while back a link to the T&C's for FB Comps. 90% of them don't follow them. Apparently you cannot ask people to share in order for them to enter. Wish I could find it. I'd cut and paste in into every comp I see that asks that - and hopefully raise awareness out there to others that blindly follow what they are told to do and share, sometimes multiple times for an entry. Also keep Companies honest and slow the flood. Liking the page and completing an entry form should be enough. Perhaps they think it is extra work for them to create and put up an entry form, and for people to complete it. They are not true Compers!

I dislike them but enter them if they are a simple entry. I refuse to tag more than one person and will only tag if it stipulated that you must and if I like the prize. I regularly go through and unlike heaps of businesses as it just gets crazy.

Dislike???, nup I loathe & totally detest them, & that is me being polite!! No one ever seems to think about where to who might find out a load about you, (or your kids,) people say I'm going away for 3 weeks, or here are my photos now in Hawaii, & as if some burglars & no good types can't actually read - well.......... Don't start me on if any despot ended up using facebook to track down anyone who was "against" them, millions could be in serious trouble before they knew they were.

Refuse to ever join facebook, as long as people give them air by entering to win something like a movie ticket they will keep on adding "tag 50 friends," "Jump in the Lake" or through "Hoops on Fire" & for some unknown reason, reason flies out the window :rolleyes:(how desperate for a movie ticket, CD, etc. are you???):lol::lol::lol:

I love them AND I hate them.

I love that there are so many more competitions to enter - small and home based businesses are running comps! Fantastic! The more the better :D

I hate that you get 2,000 entries for a small not worth it prize

I hate having to share my 25WOL answers with the world - embarrassed about my really bad ones, and scared that my really good ones will get pinched.

I loathe any comp that asks for more than 3 tags - what? you want me to tag 10? - Ummmm.... Facebook will actually block you if you do this - you are asking me to do something that will get my account frozen!

Most of all I hate having to follow up each and every FaceBook Competition to see if I have won or not. Most of them now reply to your entry - which is great - but not all of them will do it.

Can't complain too much though - I have won a few and that's what we are all here for ;)

Yes, dislike the FB comps where each friend tagged equals an entry. Even though I have been lucky to win a bit on FB over the years it's just getting too competitive. Like said above 2000 entries for a cheap prize, over it!!!

Hate Facebook so especially hate that I miss out on so many comps! :grind:

i hate them never win same people win all the time

Even worse they often do not tell you you won. You need to go mining every comp you entered and find out if they mentioned you in the comments, or they redraw.

Prize wins 2014: $37680
Prize wins 2011: $13000
previous years about $25000

The harder you work the luckier you get

I have just stopped entering them which has significantly reduced the number of comps I enter but I wasn't winning anything from them anyway

I'm hating them more and more and am entering them less and less.
I think Christmas this year (more than any other year) has exploded with Advent competitions on facebook. It must take hours for anyone to enter them all every day. I've decided this year to mostly keep away from them. I also personally don't think that many are really a random draw as they're supposed to be, or fairly judged for wol. I think many promoters on facebook are looking for someone that fits their preferred demographic when awarding a winner. My facebook account is a comping one only. It wouldn't take more than a minute for a promoter to realise that all my friends are comping friends and I have no personal photos or details on my account. It's no wonder I don't win facebook comps.

I win most off my prizes from Facebook, another $390 prize last night so I love them

I only enter the odd one if it's worth the time and I dislike Instagram ones also!!
All this techno stuff is more difficult for some of us older people :fake

I am picky about which Facebook comps I enter. I have to want the prize for starters. If they want 25WOL I usually pass as I read others responses and think there is no way I could write better. If they want me to tag one or more people I will usually pass on those too.

Having said that, I have still won a few Facebook comps this year!

Snazzie, I found the Facebook Guidelines.

https://www.facebook.com/page_guidelines.php

E. Promotions

1. If you use Facebook to communicate or administer a promotion (e.g. a contest or sweepstakes), you are responsible for the lawful operation of that promotion, including:

a. The official rules;

b. Offer terms and eligibility requirements (e.g. age and residency restrictions); and

c. Compliance with applicable rules and regulations governing the promotion and all prizes offered (e.g. registration and obtaining necessary regulatory approvals)

2. Promotions on Facebook must include the following:

a. A complete release of Facebook by each entrant or participant.

b. Acknowledgement that the promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook.

3. Promotions may be administered on Pages or within apps on Facebook. Personal Timelines and friend connections must not be used to administer promotions (e.g. "share on your Timeline to enter" or "share on your friend's Timeline to get additional entries" and "tag your friends in this post to enter" are not permitted).

4. We will not assist you in the administration of your promotion, and you agree that if you use our service to administer your promotion, you do so at your own risk.

I'm going to start my own campaign by posting number 3 on FB comps who ask you to tag friends. :lol:

I think over time facebook comps will reach their peak and then taper down. I've been entering comps on and off since 2007 and there seems to be a cycle of how to enter comps e.g at one time rafflecopter was really popular but there doesn't seem so much of it now. So don't get discouraged everything always evens out in the end.
