Singapore recommendations

Hi All,

We are contemplating a trip to Singapore with the kids (aged 9) in January school holidays. My concerns are that it will be stinking hot and not the best time to travel.
Has anyone ever been in January and is the humidity and heat unbearable?

Also, any recommendations for accomodation - we would prefer somewhere on Sentosa Island if possible, but happy for any child friendly recommendations on the mainland.

Thanks in advance;)

Hi katley.

My husband and I went to Singapore in Feb earlier this year and, from what I've heard, it's hot and humid all year round with the same temperature. January has more rain than Feb, which can be a reprieve from the humidity. At least you don't need to pack much in the way of clothing!

Sentosa Island was lots of fun so your family will surely enjoy it. We stayed out of town, so I can't really recommend any hotels. Many hotels supply bottled water daily and have a free Handee smart phone available for guests to use in and out of the hotel. The phone was great as you can make unlimited phone calls (even overseas) and it also had google maps, local attractions and was easy to use. I'd recommend getting a hotel that provides them.

Enjoy your trip!

We always stay at The Pan Pacific in Marina Bay - it is really beautiful and a great location. The breakfast buffet is incredible!

There's a facebook group called Singapore Groupies that is really helpful and has a lot of great information. If you are unsure of anything just ask a question and some one will reply. I highly recommend joining

Weather wise - January could be rainy ( tropical down-pours that start quick, go crazy and then stop) but it stays hot and humid all year round.

I found the Swiss Hotel good with kids, it's not on Sentosa, but it has a great family friendly pool and generous rooms for Singapore standards. We went on a day trip to Sentosa and caught the Sky Lift which was fun. I looked into Sentosa but found it very expensive, now that I have been a few times, I prefer staying in Singapore, but if you love visiting entertainment parks, then that's a good choice.

I lived and worked in Malaysia for awhile and visited Singapore a lot. They have basically the same weather. They don't have seasons as we know them. The temperature is the same all year round - in the low to mid 30's during the day and mid 20's at night.

However, they have a 'wet' season and a 'dry' season. The 'wet' season is during our Spring/Summer, so around Sep to Feb. But it rains in the dry season too, just not quite as much. I would go whenever it best suits you and just deal with whatever weather you get at the time.

We have stayed in the Lanson Place apartments just behind Somerset MRT, perfect position and amazing roof top pool. I love this place for family stays because it had2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, seperate loung and a full kitchen. Just across the road from a big supermarket. We eat out for dinner but like to be able to have breakfast and snacks in the apartment and a bit of space to stretch out and relax!

We have been to Singapore countless times with ad without the kids and have always stayed central to Orchard Road for ese of getting around. There are Ascott and Somerset brand appartments nearby as well if that style of accommodation suits better than a hotel room.

Wherever you stay, you will love Singapore!

I stayed at hotel Michel on Sentosa several years ago. It opens right onto the courtyard where the Aquarium, the huge chocolate shop, a few other shops and the entrance to Universal Studios is.

It was pretty cool with a unique bathroom and the hotel is pretty much an art gallery.

we stayed at the Hilton on Orchard road, close to everything, we paid extra for the Executive Package where you had drinks and food in the afternoon, it was well worth paying the extra and the breakfast was included. great swimming pool. Have a wonderful trip.
