Have you shared your prizes with others? Here's my story :-)

Have you shared your prizes with others? Here's my story :-)

We all love a good competition win, but sharing prizes with family and friends is doubly rewarding! Just curious how many of you have been able to spread the love and share your prizes with others?

My best one was in 2016 when I won a Morning Show/Qantas competition (50 WOL) where the prize was a trip for six to Sydney for the Australian premiere of Finding Dory. The theme of the competition was along the lines of the movie and “reuniting with friends and family”. Two of the six airfares could be international. As soon as I got the WPC, I messaged our friends in the US asking if they were still up (it was late on a Sunday night over there). I waited a bit, got no response, then sent another message saying “It’s kind of important”. They finally replied so we then video-called them. The absolute best part was saying “Hey, just wondering what you were doing next week?” They looked somewhat confused and replied “Ummm, nothing much I guess”. Then we asked “Just wondering whether you would like to come to Australia?” Well, the looks on their faces when it all sunk in was absolutely priceless! Their excitement then, and over that entire week before they flew out here made me so damn happy. Even when they were here, I remember we were walking around the SeaLife aquarium and our friend was saying how he just can’t believe they were here and how surreal it all was. They basically only had a week from the time I told them until they flew here, so it really was a whirlwind! They had never been to Australia before, and we were given tickets to all the attractions such as the SeaLife Aquarium, Madam Tussauds, the Wildlife park, Sydney Tower, Manly Aquarium, plus of course we walked the blue carpet at the Finding Dory premiere. So whilst myself, hubby and two kids got a trip to Sydney, I think our US friends were the real winners in this one. I’ve been very fortunate to have a lot of big wins since starting comping in around 1992 (cruise, overseas and interstate holidays, electrical goods etc., and my biggest was a considerable cash prize from a radio station), but I consider the Finding Dory one the most rewarding win in my comping history. I’ve had other small wins like lunches etc. that I’ve been able to share with friends, and I took my entire workplace on a weekend winery tour with the balance of a $2000 local travel voucher we were struggling to spend on ourselves. They are the best memories, and so appreciated by others who just weren’t expecting it.

Let me know if you have ever had the chance to share the joy of your winnings, and if you ever get the chance to in the future, I highly recommend it!!!!

I give most of my prizes away. I think I told the story of a young couple from church who were stressed at they had a lot of help for their wedding and wanted to buy boxes of chocolates as thank you gifts. I had won $500 worth of gift packs. I just gave them the lot. I have also passed on bed linen, groceries, toys, movie passes, weekends away and lots of stuff really.

Prize wins 2014: $37680
Prize wins 2011: $13000
previous years about $25000

The harder you work the luckier you get

I took ten of my work mates out for a Chunky Custard Christmas Dinner a few years ago - they thought it was fab.
Besides my immediate family benefiting from my hobby i'm taking my sister to NZ later this year - the look on her face was priceless when i asked if she wanted to join me....

There's something great about giving stuff away or winning for other people. I won my parents $10K by nominating them in the Today Show Knock of Cash. And last year I won a trip for 4 to all 3 State of Origin games so took three different groups of friends/workmates, who absolutely loved me for it!

Also won 2 year's worth of internet and an XBOX for my sister and her fam who struggle financially so that was one less monthly expense for them.

These stories are making me all teary! So memorable and heartfelt.

My biggest win to date is a travel voucher which we will be using to take our kids on their first ever overseas trip, and I do hope that in time, I will be in a position like you all were to make others smile from my wins.

I took two of my friends to LA and San Francisco thanks to The Morning Show's Inside Out Competition. While just last year I took my sister with me to Sydney to the Australia Premiere of The Greatest Showman where we were just meters away from Zac Efron (who she adores) and Hugh Jackman. I love comping as it gives you the opportunity to give amazing experiences to friends and family that they may not be able to afford or ever experience. :)

My hubby had never travelled until he met his comping wife. Now he has been on multiple overseas trips and places in Australia. Most memorable were our trip to Tassie where he saw snow for the very first time (and it wasn't even forecast) and on a trip to London we went to the street and house where his Dad and grandparents once lived. Coming up in October we will be back in England and he will be going to watch Fulham play at their home ground, just like his granddad did many years ago.

I love reading this thread ;);) Most of my prizes I give away, though
small amounts of cash or giftcards is what I mainly keep.
Where to start, most of my family has had experiences due to my comping;)
Siblings great escape to Sydney, cousin finally got a dishwasher, nephew
has travelled around Aussie, nieces went to their first ever concert, Brittany Spears in style. The experiences have been endless from fine dining, concerts,
musicals, hotel stays, brother loved the day at the MCG, in the fan box, with
so many goodies;);)Kids have seen many toys, I have given many hampers
to charitys and even tickets to people I have never met. I love the gift of giving and thank god for my lottos family:love::love:

I too love to share my wins, sharing it with someone is a far better feeling than winning it(don’t get me wrong I still love that winning feeling), I got to take 4 friends to The Melbourne cup in 2014 just asking them if they would like to join us all expenses paid was such a highlight in my life and their faces and responses that moment there will live with me forever.

Won $10000 travel voucher.
Took family of 5 to Hamilton Island for a week, paid for daughters stay in a luxury hotel for her wedding night, paid for sons airfare to the US, and a fancy lunch for hubby and I to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary!

Reading these stories warms my heart... I was very fortunate last year to win a private Gold Class screening of Wonder Woman for my 40th birthday. It was so wonderful treating my friends and family to a night out. It is particularly special to me now as it is the last time I saw my beautiful cousin who sadly passed away a few months later from cancer. She was so vibrant and happy this night and I'll cherish the memory forever. So grateful for the opportunities comping has given me...

Have given away many of my prizes over the decades and sharing the joy is wonderful! Stayed with a friend in Sydney for a week and won them 50 scratchies, dinner out and tickets to the movies in 3 separate comps, so even after I left the prizes kept arriving reminding them of the fun we shared and they could continue the fun in my absence! Posted off $130 of skin care to my friend in a drought ravaged area recently and she got teary as it was total luxury to have something to pamper herself with! Winning 10kg of chocolate for the local fire brigade volunteers was great as they were astounded to be thought of and thanked. One of my dearest friends now was just an acquaintance ten years ago that I invited to share my dinner on a river cruise at sunset prize...they were fascinated I entered comps but now when I ring them to tell them of a win they are just as excited as me sharing the joy as they look at the photo of us on the cruise which is beside the phone!

Love this thread. I too give away a lot of my prizes. Treating family and friends with little extras is a joy for both them and myself.

I also have a 'prize/ present' cupboard where I stash my random wins and gift them around throughout the year.

My daughter this morning is testing showbags at Wayville (Adelaide) Showgrounds and I hope it will become a treasured childhood memory for her.

Took my kids on a Maeve O'Meara, Asian tour of Sydney, including the market & Chinatown, plus heaps more, wow !!! , we ate & ate ... & ate some more (nobody ever starves on an Asian Inspirations adventure) ... had a private dinner, cooked by Heather Jong, a top Korean Chef, in her own home, with a personal wine expert ... it was supposed to be for 2 hours ... we had to remind them our carraige would turn into a pumpkin, at midnight ... have to admit we were slightly hungover the next morning !!!! ... but the best bit, my daughter was working herself into the ground and that weekend was a light bulb moment. that turned her life around ... best prize ever a HAPPY, HEALTHY daughter :love::love:

I've given away lots of prizes. The biggest was when I won a trip to Coachella and LA for 4 people, with just a couple of weeks notice. Invited my brother and SIL and they were so excited to go on the trip with us, even with the short notice. And what an experience Coachella was! None of us would have ever have done it without the win.

But my favourite giveaway was tickets to the NRL magic round a couple of years ago. I think there were 3 matches on the one day and the prize had seats on a deck with food and drinks included and waiters. The location was in a different state and we couldn't go so I gave it to my nephew and his girlfriend who are huge NRL fans. He had such a great time, he face-timed me half way through to thank me and share his excitement. It was the one and only time I've ever face-timed!

I enjoy giving away prizes. :)

I too give away so many of my prizes but the best of all was back in 2007 when I won the BMW from an IGA Kraft comp, I received a lovely cheque instead and was able to gift each of my kids with something they really wanted. Am so glad to be able to spoil my son's with things that gave them many fun times as both have since passed. Having those memories has helped a little with the grief process.

Not only prizes but also purchase comps, any excess gets donated to local charities.

My win shared

I had a good run of luck some years ago when I won 3 overseas holidays in the space of as many years. Two were to New York and one to LA. I gave the second New York one to my sister and her partner since they had been through a rough time and both needed and deserved a holiday. They had a great time and, more importantly, are indebted to me for life!! ha.

These stories are awesome - I often try to win things that can be raffled for my daughter's special olympics club - they are always appreciative. So they'll be getting a Western Bulldogs guernsey (courtesy of Coke) soon! I won a Jag $1000 voucher a few years ago which kept my other daughter and husband well dressed (as I didn't really fit into what they offered)

Comping since 1980.......

Over the years I have shared lots of prizes with family and friends ie bbq, chocolates, appliances, clothing etc

I’ve been lucky to win several overseas trips in the last 10 years. As my husband is reluctant to go on long haul flights, I always invite my sister instead. She loves it! She has been to the USA and Vietnam with me. Last year I won a trip to NZ for 4 and my husband and I and my sister and brother-in-law went. It was great!
