Accomodation recommendations for New Zealand South Island please

Hello, my Husband and I are travelling to the South Island of NZ next Feb and would love any advice of reasonably priced accomodation. We hope to stay in Twizel, Queenstown, Te Anau and Wanaka. To save costs we plan to cook in most places but would probably eat out in Queenstown. Many thanks

Can't help with specific places but had good experiences with Airnb on the Northern Island last year...

We stayed at a number of these places about 5 years ago. I chose mid range motels, most with kitchenettes. All were centrally located. Spent hours reading reviews on TripAdvisor which I recommend also you do. You can rank all the motels according to best value or reviewer ranking. It was an excellent tool and we were happy with all our motels.
Here’s where we stayed
Twizel.....Colonial Motel. Spacious, clean and quiet. Close to shop and pub. We used mote kitchen in room. Jumping off point for Mt Cook.
Queenstown.....Crowne Plaza (actually was a Lottos win)! No kitchen so ate out. Fantastic location on lake with views. Close to shops, restaurants.
Te Anau.....The Alpenhorn. Looked ordinary on outside but was refurbished inside. Comfortable, spacious room. Walking distance to shops. Owner fantastic....booked Doubtful Sound tour thru Motel. Stayed 3 nights Loved our stay here even though it’s not a flash Motel.
Wanaka....Bella Vista. Chain. Well located close to town and lake. Clean and comfortable.
As I said, check them out on TripAdvisor. It will also give prices.
If you need any other info feel free to U2U me. Enjoy your trip. We are heading back tere in two weeks. Can’t wait.

We stayed in Queenstown in Airbnb and had a wonderful stay - its not right in town so you need a car but it's gorgeous. Wonderful hosts and beautiful accomodation.

Not much in Wanaka - we didn't stay there.

Good luck

Thanks for all the advise. Will spend tomorrow researching again. We were bit naive. Really wanted to do an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sounds but the tour operators I could find are all fully booked for next Feb. Obviously peak time and probably should have booked ages ago. Will try and book into a day cruise. Thanks again
