HOW covid-19 has changed the way we used to live. .. for now at least

No more no-essential gatherings or over 500.

I have read that churches are streaming their sermons so those who need to can watch from home. Those over 70 should remain at home. Hillsong (according to today's Herald) DID run their huge COLOUR conference and has issued a statement with a BIBLE reference that says that true believers will be safe from 'plagues' etc

Doctors surgery now show signs saying if you have Covid-19 symptoms, DO NOT ENTER. Go to assigned places.

Schools and unis closing

Sydney Royal Easter Show cancelled. (even Disney land closed)

I have heard people suggest to their elderly active parents that they do not use public transport

Shortage of essentials.

Suggestions to those who can to send their grandparents away to somewhere isolated. The librarian at our school has sent hers to the family farm.

My son just flew to Melbourne from North Queensland in the early hours of yesterday morning to to to the Grand Prix only to find out on arrival it has been cancelled. An expensive trip and accomodation at premium rate that has a no refund policy. He also had to get a Dr's certificate to say he was healthy before he left at last minute and there are no bulk billing Doctors in our town. It has been a very expensive non event for him. His yearly looked forward holiday was definitely changed this year.

I booked tickets to the Melbourne Flower Show (end March). Today received email saying it was cancelled, and they will refund the cost. I'd actually rather they hung on to the ticket money if they could use it to help all the smaller businesses who were going to have stands there, as they will be severely out of pocket for their preparations, particularly with plants and flowers as they have a short shelf-life. Hate to think how many will be going under financially because of the cancellation.

The cost to organisers and participants at these events must be huge. It's sad to think of the blows farmers and rural people have taken with drought, fire and flood and now to have the Easter Show cancelled.... they must be reeling.

My daughter catches the airport train daily to and from work and has been sick for a few days. She's wearing a mask to protect others but has had pneumonia twice in 12 months so asked her GP if it would be wiser for her to work from home & if so can she get a certificate saying so...... answer? "No, I consider you low risk. Just keep washing your hands" :o

Tell her to get tested if she's sick. But a doctor can't write a certificate for just in case she catches it, that's an agreement she needs to make with her employer.

There seems to be alot less comps around, no doubt promoters will be reducing their budgets.

My husband has been sick for a few days and is studying TAFE (Allied Health), he went to dr and got cert for Friday. TAFE have advised he can't return until cleared, we phoned the hospital that does the testing and he doesn't qualify because hasn't been overseas nor in contact with a confirmed case. We have to go this morning for a letter to state 'he's not eligible and TAFE HAVE to let him back'. I think that's BS. But it is what it is I guess.

Daughter has decided to just advise her employer she will work remotely. Hopefully they will understand.

For some bizarre reason tonight hubby decided to 'go to the club' after he dropped something at a friend's (at their front door so he didn't have to go in). Comes home and says how everyone is coughing and sneezing and they should just stay at home, heck, why didn't he just stay at home?!!! Now I will be fretting and spraying the Glen 20 everywhere for the next 2 weeks every time he sniffles.:mad::sniffle::sniffle:

Employer has advised employees to work from home unless it is essential they are in the office. No more mad dashes between 7am-8am on the way to school for school lunches, as this hour will now be for elderly, pensioners, disability. No more training for running events, as they've been cancelled or deferred to later in the year. Otherwise life goes on as normal.

Our doctor appointments are all by telephone (wherever possible) from now on ... some cancelled until this is over, I've discussed back up plans, for if Mr Blossom can't give the blood he needs, to lower his iron count ... he better be brave enough to be married to a vampire (not quite, but close, lets hope it doesn't come to that ) ... otherwise, life goes on, our neighbours are dropping in fruit off their trees (with no contact) they can't store, so lots of stewing & freezing, I'm sure I'll have to be inventive, as I run out of some ingredients (big deal) I'm working hard to build up & online connections in our area & the groups I'm involved in, reaching out to anyone who might need support & Mr Blossom is out digging & planting a garden, self sufficency, here we come. Stay well everyone ... positive minds build healthy immune systems :love::love:

Went to the green grocer with our son. 'Ordered' to stay in the car with master 2. Not allowed to touch anything. No metal trolley. He took bags. Got back in the car and sanitized his hands, reminding me to wash veges using white vinegar.
I feel I have had a taste of being looked after by family in my very old age. Oh well, at least I have family who cares.

My Doctor appointments (if I have any) are by phone only also. I waited for 2 1/4 hours with a mask and gloves on sitting on the front verandah of the Doctor's Office to be seen Wednesday. At least every 3rd or 4th person was coughing walking in and out. I had tests recently prior to organising the Specialist referral consult for Wednesday. The Doctor said she was not going to do the physical assessment she said I needed last week or write the referral because they were "a waste of time and resources" and had a really wierd look on her face and was squirming in her chair.....I said so you think I will die of CV soon so no further forward planning is required for me? Doctor said yes that is correct. I then said if you think I am dying soon will you sign off on an Advanced Health Directive I have paid to be printed at the library. I wish to give legal written directions that I receive maximum pain relief and sedation, even if it shortens my life, to cope with feeling like I am drowning with pneumonia again if I get CV. No oxygen or other palliative treatment will be provided for someone with pre existing respiratory issues, like me, because there will be insufficient supplies. Doctor agreed to sign the Advanced Health Directive after discussing with a phone consult. I understand my prognosis if I get CV will be fatal. I think the Doctor should have had a little compassion and diplomacy and suggested the Specialist referral be written after the coronavirus situation has eased rather than being so blatant saying it was a "waste of time":mad::mad:. I am determined to prove her wrong and keep safely away from CV!:lol::lol:

Now my fulltime housesitting days are over March 31 I am homeless so I rang the homeless help line and waited on the phone queue yesterday. I was then grilled with questions for an hour and told to ring back Monday. They said they cannot help anyone with Disabilities requiring a walking stick or frame and I need to go to the Hospital to see the Social Worker.....which is not keeping myself isolated for safety. The Hospital Social Worker has not helped before so unlikely to do so now. For 18 months I have contacted many many organisations to secure stable accomodation that is safe for my health conditions (one young caseworker said there was a vacancy in a second floor flat with no lifts....which shows how little they listen suggesting that when I told her I have a walking stick/frame) to no avail. My next housesit for a few months was in Brisbane so I had planned to drive several hundred kilometres there to look for retirement villages after ringing them on the phone to discuss but it is not safe to travel now!

My EMDR Doctor, who is the most kindest compassionate health professional I have ever met, volunteered to see me in the carpark for a free consult after his long day of work Wednesday so we could trouble shoot some strategies for moving forward and a place to live (we were there 90 minutes bless him). He thinks the empty motels and hotels might do an affordable deal for Disability Pensioners, like me, and other fulltime housesitters who will also be homeless because everyone's life is changing so teamwork and compromises need to be made for everyone to get through this the best way we can!

Today I spoke to the fulltime housesitter who arrived at my current neighbours yesterday....she has another housesit after this one for 2 weeks then nothing so is planning to sleep in her car. My (diabetic) friend also does fulltime housesitting with her motorhome and that is cancelled so she is in a free camp place in the bush trying to figure out what to do also.

On a bright note blossom52 have you seen the Youtubes about recycling parts of vegetables you have bought or grown to replant them again? Like cutting off the bottom of the celery and getting it to regrow or cutting off a wedge of potato and putting it in a dark area so it grows eyes and replanting it again. I think Better Homes and Gardens did a feature at one stage on not discarding parts of veges but regrowing them instead.:yes::yes: if you haven't got chooks yet please get some because they will give you fresh eggs and are fabulous company. Have you seen the young boy around 12 years that has made a profitable business from making bikinis and beanies for chooks? Absolutely hilarious....you could whip up some chook outfits and post the pictures to amuse your online group.

I wish with all my heart that I had an empty room or house to help you out, I think they may be right, some of the older motels (we stay in them & they're great) or caravan parks, perhaps people with permanent onsite vans (they won't be using) would open them to someone with good references, I'd get on the phone & ring around, they'd probably be happy just to have a bit of money coming in & maybe rent assistance would apply xx but yes we already re-plant the left over veg bits, it works so well, I'm trying to sprout a sweet potato at the moment ... I keep talking to it everyday, but I'm not sure it's listening :) ... and as far as doctors go ... my Mum was paralyzed from the shoulders down at 18 (during the war) never to leave hospital, wouldn't live past 30 ... she married my Dad, moved out, lived in a tent with two young kids, while they built their house, lived an amazing, full life & they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, before she left us at 75 ... doctors vastly underestimate the will to survive xx
