Port Douglas
Hi all , going to Port Douglas for a trip whilst hubby is involved in conference there which I’m not involved in and was wondering if anyone has
suggestions on what I could on my own . Nothing too adventurous as I’m not used to roaming around on my own.
Want to explore a bit but not sure where to go on my own .
TIA

Hi a trip to the crocodile farm between Port Douglas and Cairns is a myst. You can walk to the pier where they have a local market not sure which day.
A wander along the main street is good taking in all the local shops. Pending weather u can do a trip to the reef or Mossman gorge. Enjoy such a
beautiful part of our countr |

There's a lot of 4WD one-day tours to the Daintree and other points of interest, and they pick up from hotels. |

Port Douglas beach is amazing to go for long walks.
The cafes and hotels are great.
Day trip to the Daintree is mindblowing. Cape Tribulation is amazing. I actually stayed there.
Mossman Gorge is a must see
Sunset cruises on Daintree River or out to sea so you can appreciate the mountainous scenery.
Trips out to the reef= wonderful and relaxing
I lived in Cairns a few years and there are countless things to do in and around Cairns. I love the Butterfly Sanctuary place at Kuranda. The Kuranda
Scenic Railway train ride from Cairns to Kuranda is spectacular.
Am sure the tour operators will look after you very well. They are used to catering for single travellers from across the world |

Hi Everyone Wandering if anyone can help with my question . Caught a shuttle to
a shopping complex not too far from where I’m staying. It had some Restaurants, Coles , bottle shop , just jeans etc but didn’t seem like too many
shops . Is there another shopping precinct not too far from Port Douglas ? Or Markets ?
TIA |

Hi Mavrick I’m not quite sure where I went I just asked the concierge at the
hotel about shopping and he said catch the shuttle and it will take you there so I think it was. There were Restaurants, Thai massages , Coles etc but no Woolworths so I was thinking there’s another complex near it . I
googled Mosman and apparently there is a woolies there so I wondering if it had any good shops nearby.

There was a target in a complex down a side street but that may be gone because a lot of them are closing down. Not sure about Mossman wouldn't think
it's very big and a fair distance too I would think. Palm Cove have a few but there are no really big shopping centres that I know of anyway. There's
a tiny one near Palm Cove on the main road and a shopping centre on the way to Cairns. Think there was a KMart but never been to that one so not sure
what's there and it is a fair way away. Hope someone that lives up there answers. It's been a while since we have been there ad I googled yesterday
that out favourite little pub, with tapas and pizza's and a sand floor has closed which I was disappointed in. Hopefully the weather is good. Try the
Marina which is down the road the opposite way from Port Douglas Beach. Have fun.

Clifton Village Shopping Centre at Clifton Beach is just south of Palm Cove and most likely the place the Shuttle Bus took you. I used to live in
Clifton Beach and it is a small, but very friendly shopping precinct, with Coles and Target and a collection of speciality shops. I googled and it is
44km and 41km south of Port Douglas but the coastal drive is absolutely spectacular so it probably did not seem very long at all.
Most likely the other spouses/partners of conference delegates will be happy to meet up and do activities which may be a cost effective way to explore
if you wished to hire a car to visit the amazing award winning Paronella Park. |

Galah88, I doubt it would have been Clifton Village as it's one of Cairns northern beaches suburbs, and a good hour's drive away from Port Douglas.
There also would be no shuttle buses running to there.
If you're staying in a hotel in Port Douglas secondwind, I would say a shuttle bus from there would have taken you to Port Village shopping precinct
which is in Macrossan St and only a matter of minutes away from any of the hotels. It has a Coles, Just Jeans, K Mart hub, Coffee Club, newsagent,
cafes, bottle shop and a few other shops.
Or there may have been a shuttle bus taking people to the Marina from where the boats leave to go out to the reef. It's many years since I've been
to the marina there but there used to be many shops and cafes at the Marina (Marina Mirage it was called). I cannot imagine that many of those places
would have survived Covid lockdowns though.
Mossman has a decent town centre and is a lot closer, to the north, than Cairns is, to the south. But Mossman is just a little country town - hardly
a place to "go shopping", and I doubt there would be a shuttle bus running between there and Port Douglas.
Make sure you go to the Port Douglas MARKETS - TOMORROW, SUNDAY. They are held on the foreshore near that gorgeous little church that people used to
come from all over the world (particularly Japan) to get married in.

Agree it’s a bit far for a day trip more to do if heading south of Cairns and further south, enjoy your stay in Port Douglas.
When the world says give up
HOPE WHISPERS
try it one more time.......
