Just curious--entering competitions using maiden name vs married name?
I was having this conversation with a friend today but didn't include comping as she isn't a comper. But talking about how long do you go before
changing names on drivers licence, home loan, bills etc?
And how about entering comps?
Is it kosher to enter in your maiden name once married? I know of a very recent comp winner who is married but won the prize using her maiden name, it
sort of feels like hedging your bets if that makes sense?
Just curious to know the general consensus of regular compers. |

Are you saying that the person entered twice - once in maiden name and once in married name in order to get two entries into a competition?
If so, I don’t think that should be allowed. |

if you won in your maiden name and had to provide id to claim your prize you might end up having to forfeit it |

Just to clarify, I am not saying that as far as this particular comp goes. I have seen this particular person win in comps with the married name but
the recent one win was definitely in the maiden name. |

As for the first part of the question, usually you have about 14 days to change your name on official documents.
As for comping, it's not going to matter too much which name they use for most comps, but usually promoters of big prizes like cars and holidays ask
for ID and their official ID will need to match.
But if they're entering in both names so they can have more entries, then that's cheating. I've seen it here a couple of times where someone enters in
both names. I've never seen them win in both names in the one comp, so maybe they use the married name for some comps and maiden name for others. |

You need to enter to match your ID..... promoters check your Drivers License before awarding major prizes. |

Err not all of them do, my daughter hasn’t changed her name and been married nine years, she uses her maiden name as her name as that’s her name never
been officially changed only name she uses though, I think if like your passport is still in your maiden name and your entering for an overseas trip
you may need to just enter in what name your ID is. It is legal to use both you maiden and married name in real life, I had a cc in my maiden name
for fifteen years into marriage. All legal.
When the world says give up
HOPE WHISPERS
try it one more time.......

You don't have to change your name. You are always what is on your birth certificate. |

It took me 3 years to change my name over to my husbands surname (I'm lazy).
As soon as I had drivers licence in married name I entered in married name and haven't entered in maiden name since because it's no longer my name. I
assume that's the same for everyone? |
