Timing of entering WOL competitions
Hi All
I've often wondered about timing of entering WOL competitions.
What order do judges read the entries if judged (first submitted to latest or vice versa) and if they think the first off the bat entries are compers.
Anyone else wonder?
Anyone won first off the bat or won entering on last day? |

I think all promoters do their own thing. Some just do a draw of entries and choose the best ones from the draw. If it is thousands of entries they
won't read them all.
Prize wins 2014: $37680
Prize wins 2011: $13000
previous years about $25000
The harder you work the luckier you get

I agree with gr82do, every promoter is different. Some also have a couple of people to read the entries as they arrive and put aside ones they like
then choose a winner from that group at the end.
And some don't read any at all and just draw the winner. I can pick these when I win. I suck at WOL, so if I win, it must've been a draw. |

I just got back from winning a trip to Sydney with Lindt chocolate. I actually talked to the person in marketing who chose the winners. He said a
fulfillment agency scrolled through and picked 50 that they though were really good ones, showing a bit of passion and enthusiasm.
He also said there was no way they could personally read over thousands of entries. From the 50 they were given, they went to on to choose ten
winners. That's just how one company did it. Everyone will do it their own way.

Thanks gr82do, Smiley and KimmyWimmy.
Certainly is interesting and always good to to get feedback if you can when you win.
Still trying to crack the Sunrise WOLs. Would be interesting to know what they do but I suspect its random draw then look for worthy sob story.
My dream job would be to be paid to judge the WOL entries |

I've sometimes seen judges pick the winner before the end of the competition, and I've also seen some competitions close early. So I wouldn't leave it
too late |

From what I've heard, it's often best to be in the first group, however, my husband recently won a WOL comp and he submitted his entry with a few
minutes to spare before it closed.
Prize totals:
2017: $37,521
2018: $9,375
2019: $23,955
2020: $22,765
2021 $32,484
2022: $41,760
2023: $58,522

My husband and I have won quite a few WOL. Some we entered early. Some last minute. Again, all promoters do their own thing. There is no rule.

previous years about $25000

No matter how they are judged I think it's very unfair not to read ALL the entries if they are expecting you to have to come up with a 25 WOL entry
... even if they read them each day and put aside the best ones to choose from at the end. If they aren't prepared to do this, then they should just
do a draw. Some people put a lot of time, effort and stress into these entries ... the very least they can do is READ them! |

I agree with you merivale why even bother with the whole WOL if they bypass the bulk of them its quite disrespectful of peoples time and effort in my
opinion |

I won a big prize 12 years ago and they said they had over 4,000 entries WOL and they said they read every one! |

I think Promoters don't necessarily have the same method of choosing WOL winners... I have won when entering early in the comp and also last minute.
I think to this day, some Promoters unfortunately still choose the 'creative' entries that have 'supporting' material either dropped off to Promoters
or posted in etc, even if the entry method is supposedly online only. |

I won a trip to NZ through Sunrise. Shocked because I know they have thousands of entries.
I suspect mine was chosen from a selection in perhaps a time frame and not drawn. Thinking this because my answer was a tweaked version of a WOL that
had won twice before, in two different competitions. All of them were winners of some component of a trip to NZ.
BTW the marketing company that arrange the prize for Sunrise are cheapskates and the prize is nowhere near the value stated. |
