Price of stamps in 2024

I just read that the price of stamps is going up from $1.20 in 2023 to $1.50 in 2024. Wow thats a decent hike costing more and more to do those mail in comps.

Australia Post is still in negotiation with the ACCC so the price won't be going up in January. Postage prices can only be raised in January and July.

From AP website:

24 November 2023

Australia Post has lodged a draft notification with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), proposing an increase to the Basic Postage Rate (BPR) for small letters, from $1.20 to $1.50, and to the prices for ordinary large letters, delivered at the regular timetable Ė to take effect in 2024.

Australia Post is also planning changes to the pricing of other domestic letter services.

There is no change to the price of concession stamps, a booklet of five stamps will still cost $3.00, or the seasonal greeting card price, which will remain at $0.65 each.

The tables below show the proposed pricing to apply in 2024 for domestic letters. Confirmation on these prices and the date of effect will be provided once the regulatory process is finalised.

They haven't finalised it yet -

"Australians are being warned to prepare to absorb another product price hike, after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) today approved a plan to increase the cost of Australia Post stamps.
Under the draft proposal, Australia Post would up the price of a regular stamp by 30 cents, from $1.20 to $1.50.
Large letters up to 125g will incur a 60-cent increase to $3, while those weighing up to 250g will rise by almost a dollar, from $3.60 to $4.50."

Comping since 1980.......

I remember when standard stamps were 37 cents each :o

Stamp rise doesnít bother me so much on regular ones, but the large letter ones will increase prices to sell or buy on eBay etc. Sellers will be less likely to offer free postage on small items if they have to pay $4.50.

2005 total:$1,130-
2006 $5,500 app.
2007 $2,000 approx.
2008 $1200
2009 $930
2010 $4,200
2011 $1,473
2012 $675 :(
2013 $462 :(
2014 $2,150
2015 $120 :(
2016 $1150
2017 $210
2018 $210 at least I'm consistent!
2019 $115 still waiting for the big one!
2020 $550
2021 $3,000
All I want ... is a chance to prove that money can't make me happy! And 2022 is the year to do it!

I'm showing my age now, but when I was a kid they were 10c each.
We'd just moved to a totally different area and my old friends and I communicated by letter. And then, OMG, they went up to 18c, then 20c in the space of a few years!

the price of concession stamps and Christmas stamps will remain the same, so that is some reprieve.

Australia Post's letter price hike won't be opposed by consumer watchdog

The consumer watchdog will not contest Australia Post's 25 per cent price increase to its letter services as the postal service attempts to recover losses.
Reserved ordinary letters will see changes from April, with the price of small letters to rise from $1.20 to $1.50, large letters up to 125 grams from $2.40 to $3 and large letters between 125 and 250 grams from $3.60 to $4.50.

There will not be any price increases for concession stamps or seasonal greeting cards.

Concession stamps are specific stamps...adding 10cents to your 55 cent stamps doesn't make them concession ones unfortunately

If you are a concession holder you can apply and are able to buy the yearly allocation of the stamps or when you need them. You will be issued with an AusPost concession card when you apply for them.

I asked today at the PO, the increase starts from tomorrow. No notices up! However this time they're prepared with 30c stamps to sell to top up with. Last increase they looked at me blankly when I asked for 10c ones.
