Have you ever bought anything you don't need just for the competition??

Have you ever bought something - food, laundry products, etc - that you don't eat or don't need, just for the competition???

I don't think I ever have, what about you???

Unnecessary purchases.

Yes, I'm vegetarian, and bought some ham so I could have a chance at winning a car once !. And tea (which I don't drink) for a trip

I have a "shame cupboard" which contains large amounts of coffee, Equal, cleaning products, matches, laxatives, flysprays, deodorants etc, all of which I try to give away to unsuspecting visitors. Cat food and baby foods are easy to give away. My bathroom has several years' supply of shampoos and shower gels!! I also toss many magazines which I buy only for the comp coupons...no time to read them!!

Whiskers cat food. Luckily my sister in law has one.

Heinz chocolate baby custurd. Yum yum. For occasional baby comps.

Asian gourmet products, (half of which I cannot eat because they contain shellfish or shellfish powder which I am allergic too.)

And the list goes on........

I try not to, I really do!

But my shame cupboard contains unopened and not needed $40 Fat Blaster, $40 Ultraslim, and Cenovis Vitamin C tablets.
(unfortunately none part of the recent recall so I couldn't get my money back).

And lollies, 12 chocolate bars, 9 mentos, 1 moccona, 2 nescafe, bacon (I'm vegetarian too), milo, cooking chocolate, 12 cup-a-soup, gravox, 1 pack of maco labels($25), all only bought for comps.

Though I am proud to say I have never bought dogfood. :P

If it's a prize I REALLY want (like a car or family holiday or big cash or if there're lots of prizes) I'll try a product I wouldn't normally buy. But I haven't found myself buying things like dog food (I don't have a dog) or other products I really couldn't use.

I'm a diabetic and I have a cupboard full of chocolate, lollies, cake mixes and bottles of PEPSI (remember that Lord of the Rings comp? - went a little overboard and of course my partner only drinks Coke!!!)

So now my cupboard is re-stocked to a 2 year capacity!

Yes Yes Yes

Our family is always buying products just for competitions, must say we have discovered some fantastic products by doing this I think that is the whole point to the companies having the promotions it works. We do not have pets so we do not enter those competitions I also buy mags just for comps and never read them. :sing: :sing: :sing:

Great question

Hi,

I too can confess. I have a sweet tooth so any comp is an excuse for me to break my diet.:D

I think however should we compers have any money problems we'll be right with enough laundry liquid for clean clothes and enough food to eat for a while. Although it may be strange combinations each meal depending on the most recent comps.:)

Sara Lee, Heinz and Greenseas suprise anyone.:o

Have fun!

Hrmmm i admit it, i went and brought a packet of lipton tea LOL so that i could enter the lipton comp.

No one is my house drinks tea, none of the people that visit drink tea cept mum and gran..... and even then they only drink it out of a tea pot (tealeaves) and they bring their own coz last time we brought tea leaves they got stale from lack of use. LOL

What to do with those unwanted products

Peanut Butter

Use in this great recipe

Peanut Butter Cookies

Makes about 30

90g Butter
¼ Cup Sugar
¼ Cup peanut butter (normal or Crunchy)
1 egg
1½ cups SR Flour
¼ Cup chopped mixed nuts

Preheat oven to slow 150C. Beat butter, sugar and peanut butter together until creamy. Add egg, beating well. Fold in flour and nuts.
Drop tsps of the mixture onto baking trays lined with baking paper. Sprinkle with extra nuts.
Bake for about 30 to 35 minutes. Cool on trays before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Canned Soups

St Vinnies and other charities would welcome cans of soups if you only have the barcode missing.

Chocolates, lollies etc

Wrap in cellophane bags with a bit of ribbon Makes a great gift to add to a hamper.

Hope these help

Maybe some others have more ideas

Lipton Tea, yes $30 worth, but it did pay off. I don't drink tea myself but everyone else I know does so I gave it away.

Oh My God JulieW - $30 worth of tea - WOW!!!

Clipboard - they're fanatstic ideas!!! You could easily make hampers or something similar to give to friends for presents - a tea or biscuit hamper.

At least with most food and laundry things - you're always going to need them.

I think the only thing I've bought that I don't eat is beetroot - for a comp that was on the wrapper. But it was OK because my mum likes it so I gave it to her.

I don't really have cupboards full of anything except cup-of-soups and lots of chips, but that's because I buy lots when they're on special --- and I can use the barcodes on them eventually

I bet we're all guilty of this one.... buying McDonald's when they have some promotion on! For instance, the Monopoly comp...

I've bought baby food for comps - there's no babies in the house! But I bought the custards or fruits so that they were eventually used as snacks.

Great Ideas Clipboard :)
You've spurred me to buy dog food afterall. Christmas time each year there's a bin to put pet food for animal shelters. I'm sure they won't mind if the barcode is missing and there'll be some happier puppies around.
